Job overview

With a rich history dating back to 1868, Orwell Park is a leading independent day and boarding preparatory school educating some 250 children aged 2 to 13. Located on the rural fringe of Ipswich, Suffolk, with 110 acres of beautiful parkland and amongst historic buildings, Orwell Park aims to provide an education of the highest quality where values of integrity, kindness and respect underpin high expectations and a truly individualised approach to learning.

The School provides a unique educational experience which combines the legacy and traditions of the past with the vibrancy of the present and the future, allowing children to thrive and flourish. Orwell Park successfully prepares its pupils for entry into the UK’s top independent senior schools and is proud of its long-held track record of supporting children to secure scholarship places.

The Governors are now seeking to appoint a new Head to succeed Adrian Brown in September 2023 after twelve years of exceptional leadership. This is a rare opportunity to further develop this unique school through an ambitious and contemporary vision underpinned by the values and spirit which has made Orwell Park the special school it is today. With the platform having been firmly set, the next Head now has the opportunity to build upon the School’s successes and position Orwell Park as one of the sector’s leading prep schools for years to come.

The successful candidate will be visible and accessible, with a successful leadership track record gained in schools within competitive marketplaces. This person will be contemporary in their outlook and bring the ability to marry a fresh and innovative approach with the School’s rich heritage and values. They will have first-class communication and influencing skills, a deep held passion for vibrant teaching and learning, and the determination to harness the current strengths and develop the School’s brand and market position.
