Job overview

Ref: PRI12543

Troup House School in Banff was rated “very good” or “good” in every category following a recent report by Education Scotland. And for good reason. We have some of the most dedicated teachers and support staff in the education sector – and our team is making a profound difference to the lives of 8-to-16 year olds with additional support needs including autistic spectrum conditions, challenging behaviour and social, emotional and mental health difficulties.

But then, that’s hardly surprising. As part of Priory Education and Children’s Services, we are passionately committed to promoting inclusion and increased attainment for all the children we work with – and we are now looking for an inspirational and ambitious Head Teacher to join us.

This is a role of exceptional variety, scope and influence. You will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and aspirational environment that enables our young people to re-engage in their experience of learning. This will involve contributing to the effective delivery of our education service by leading our Education Team from the front and supporting the development of our unique curriculum. All our teachers deliver education across the curriculum and we have specific areas for development including Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing.

Given the age range of our school population, you could bring either Primary or Secondary qualifications and experience to this role. You will need a current UK driving licence and the willingness to undergo certified training and refresher courses in a range of areas including Safeguarding, Physical Intervention, Behavioural Management, First Aid, Fire Prevention and Health & Safety at Work. Other specialist training relating to the evolving needs of the school and our children may also be required.

If your application is successful, you will need to register with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCs). You will also be required to apply for a PVG from Disclosure Scotland (see www.disclosurescotland.co.uk  for more information).

Our naturally therapeutic environment provides the ideal physical surroundings for young people to access compensatory experiences and alternative learning opportunities which form part of their Individual education and care plans.
