Canley Vale High School is a co-educational, comprehensive high school that caters for the academic, social and emotional needs of approximately 1609 students. Our student population has an average annual average growth of 4% which is composed of enrolments from local, international and new arrivals to Australia. Currently 97% of the students live in households of a non-English speaking background with the predominate language groups of Vietnamese, Khmer, Cantonese and Mandarin.
The school serves a community that is in the lowest 4% for socio-economic advantage in NSW. Despite this, the school holds a consistent average of 90% of HSC graduates entering tertiary study.
Canley Vale High School offers a very broad and balanced curriculum including four VET pathways; accelerated classes; designated EAL/D classes; timetabled Literacy classes; High Potential and Gifted classes and a newly established Support Unit. Free Homework Centre and tutorials for HSC students are available before and after school hours to support our students.
The school has a purpose-built Lecture Theatre that seats 200; a Construction Trade Training Centre; Hospitality Kitchen and a range of other specialist learning spaces. In 2020, a major infrastructure upgrade was completed adding new learning spaces and extending core facilities.
Canley Vale High School has productive partnerships with Canley Vale Public School, Lansvale Public School and Lansvale East Public School under the Vale of Schools (HPGE, SchoolsPlus grant and Tournament of Minds), the University of Technology, the University of Sydney, Western Sydney University and the University of NSW.
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
Approval to teach English 7-10, English 11-12 and demonstrated experience teaching English Extension 1 & 2.
Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and build staff capacity to develop effective processes and practices, catering and enhancing learning outcomes for all students, with focusses on HPGE, EAL/D and students with special education needs.
Highly developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and work as part of a diverse team to build positive relationships and effectively communicate with students, staff, parents/ guardians.
Demonstrated ability to utilise data to plan for the effective individualised support meeting the wellbeing and learning needs of students, with emphasis on HPGE and EAL/D.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
