Position Information 

Maclean High School is a comprehensive co-educational secondary school located on the South Arm of the Clarence River and serves the educational needs of the lower Clarence area. The school is situated on the land of the Yaegl people. It has a current enrolment of 789 students, approximately 13% of whom identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and come from a variety of nations. The school works with 12 partner primary schools ranging from larger urban to smaller rural-based schools and is actively working to forge closer links across the educational and broader community for the benefit of its students. Maclean High School follows the Positive Behaviour for Learning program and is characterised by its inclusive culture, a focus on each student as an individual, academic success, a broad senior curriculum and a strong emphasis on wellbeing and support. The school's five support classes cater for the needs of a diverse range of students with identified special needs. A fully operational Trade Training Centre supports the diverse senior pathways including a variety of Vocational Education and Training courses. There is an involved and committed Parents and Citizens’ Association, strong ties to the local Aboriginal community and members of the local community. The school aims to promote a focus on improving pedagogy along with improving practice in literacy and numeracy. Specific Selection Criteria 
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach English (7-10) and relevant skills and/or experience in teaching English (11-12) and English extensions 1 and 2.
Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership in developing staff collaboration, innovation and managing English curriculum change for teachers with a diverse range of skills and experiences.
Demonstrated capacity to analyse internal and external data to inform, design and lead initiatives in accordance with the school's strategic directions to improve the learning and literacy outcomes of all students.
Demonstrated capacity to engage with the whole school and it's community by using an evidence based, best practice approach to improving learning and wellbeing outcomes for all students. 
  
General Selection Criteria 
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
 
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
