Job overview

Avalon School is a dynamic special school for 55 pupils aged 11-19 years with a broad range of cognition and learning needs.
Visitors to our school tell us that the strong ethos and positive school culture is palpable.

Pupils enjoy their learning both in school and out in the wider community; they demonstrate empathy and understanding of each other’s complex needs.

Parents and carers are pleased with the progress their young person makes; that they are ‘part of the Avalon family’ and are learning to be safe and independent.

Staff are highly skilled; creative and thoroughly committed to enabling all our young people to experience success and to be prepared for life. There is a strong focus on developing pupils’ real-life skills.

Governors provide strong support and challenge and enjoy participating in the life of the school.

Ofsted [Jan 2018] recognised these strengths.

Avalon is a school with strong collaborative partnerships and valued outreach provision, responsive to the needs of children with SEN in local mainstream schools.
