Teaching ServiceBlaxland High School is a comprehensive, co–educational school that services the educational needs of the community of the lower Blue Mountains from Lapstone to Warrimoo. Enrolment numbers in 2021 were 1015 including 43 Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students (4%).
The Support unit has 4 Autism classes from students across the Blue Mountains. Our emphasis is to have high expectations and to improve engagement so all students can maximise their potential at school.
There is a major classroom emphasis on integrating literacy and numeracy, wellbeing and technology and delivering innovative curriculum, which engages students with work and the broader community.

- Approval to teach special education and/ or extensive experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, behaviour difficulties and complex learning needs.
- Demonstrated ability to utilise student assessment data to develop, implement and evaluate differentiated and innovative individual learning and behaviour plans in line with evidence-based practice and current DOE curricula.
- Exemplary interpersonal, communication and leadership skills to lead and inspire the Support faculty to build both the individual and collective capacity to maintain a high performing faculty.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with a range of internal and external support services to provide a holistic educational approach that best suits the individual needs of every student, while creating a successful and positive learning experience.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
