Job overview

Head

Old Buckenham Hall

Old Buckenham Hall, commonly referred to as OBH, is a day and boarding prep school in rural Suffolk. The School educates children from three to 13 years in a stunningly beautiful 80 acre site, allowing OBH pupils the chance to thrive and develop through access to a huge range of opportunities, both academic and co-curricular.

OBH has evolved over the decades but retains a strong boarding ethos and sense of tradition. The School has gone from strength to strength in recent years and the Prep and Pre-Prep have been shortlisted for ‘Best of’ Awards in 2022.

Following the appointment of the current postholder, David Griffiths, to the role of Head at St Hugh’s Prep School, Oxfordshire, the Governors are looking for a successor to lead this delightful school and to build upon the progress of recent years.

First and foremost, the successful candidate will be motivated by the desire to lead a busy and vibrant prep school community, where the children come first. They will share the Board’s commitment to maintaining OBH’s boarding ethos and provision. Whilst it is likely they will have some prior knowledge or experience of boarding, they will recognise the importance of the day pupil market and understand how best to integrate it within a boarding setting. In addition, they will appreciate the way in which rural prep schools operate and will relish the prospect of active participation within such a community, not only as a member of the School itself but also within the wider locality.

The Governors are open to the idea that this might be someone’s first headship. However, given the School’s size, the fact that it is stand-alone, and the continued emphasis upon strategic vision, candidates for the role will ideally demonstrate a depth of leadership experience.

Additional information about OBH can be found on the School’s website at www.obh.co.uk.

For further details on the role, please visit: www.minervasearch.com/obh

If you need further information, please feel free to contact Alice Speers or Jo Ogilvy via obh@minervasearch.com

To apply, please send a completed application form, CV, Equal Opportunities form and cover letter of no more than two pages, addressed to Andrew McGregor, Chair of Governors at obh@minervasearch.com by no later than midday on the 4th October 2022.

Initial interviews will be held w/c 10th October. This will be followed by informal discussions w/c 17th October and the final interviews will take place w/c 7th November.
