Job overview

A fantastic opportunity to take on the leadership of this unique school, with a real family feel. The Eveline Day School (EDS) is a thriving and successful school where the child is central to everyday learning. The successful candidate must have previous experience as a Head Teacher with a passion for child focused education and care.

EDS is a small, diverse, family centred primary school situated on Balham high Road, with approximately 120 students and has been successfully open for the past 30 years. The School is part of a family run group of 7 nurseries and 1 primary school, due to the recent loss of the founder, her daughter and current Head Teacher of the School, is moving further into a Managing Director role. After leading the School for over 30 years, she is looking for someone to hold strong her vision and ethos.

EDS provides unique care for working parents, open from 7.30am until 6.30pm for 51 weeks of the year. During term time, the School day begins at 8.30am and ends at 4.30pm, with breakfast, lunch, tea and snacks are served throughout the day.  When the academic term ends and for half term breaks, the school remains open and children can attend for theme work, play and socialising.

The School centres on inspiring a lifelong love of learning in a safe, stimulating and happy environment, within a culture that promotes the values of inclusion, kindness, respect and equal dignity. A special combination of committed staff and a supportive parent community, produces an atmosphere conducive to students flourishing in a range of areas spanning a broad curriculum, tailored to the needs of the individual child. Students enjoy a high level of academic achievement and leave at the end of Year 6 to go to a wide range of top performing state schools, and local independent schools.

The principal factor that give The Eveline Day School its character and strength is the belief that every child deserves the highest quality of education to help them attain their full potential.

Our focus is to encourage each child to be the best that they can be. We provide experiences to encourage their confidence to grow. Our residential trips start at Year Two and continue to Year Six and we believe that such activities allow children to pursue their own talents, take responsibility, treat others as they would be treated and encourages them to share listen, forgive and be kind.

Sports plays an important part of the curriculum at EDS and there are sports lessons twice a week plus daily morning and afterschool sports activities and clubs. EDS believes the importance of starting sports training at an early age and our children participate in sports from the age of two. EDS is a creative school with daily mindfulness classes and weekly music, art and drama classes.

The school has a rich extra-curricular activity timetable, including musical instruments, sports, yoga, martial arts, speech and drama, chess and athletics and is in partnership with Wandsworth Music. All children are encouraged to play an orchestral instrument, the viola, cello, violin or double bass. Every child in KS2 plays an instrument and they are part of the Wandsworth Strings Orchestra, which has performed at The Royal Festival Hall, The Mayor of Wandsworth’s Parlour and Fairfield Hall. Most students have one-to-one peripatetic music lessons on drums, piano, violin or guitar.

Students enjoy performing to parents at monthly assemblies, annual musical theatre productions and musical recitals, for parents and families to enjoy.

Our teachers look to identify the children’s passion and talents and guide and support them to develop their skills and further their learning. From this year’s Senior class, 6 pupils successfully won scholarships to their chosen secondary schools. And over the years, many of our pupils have attained academic, music, sport, art and drama scholarships.

Staff wellbeing is also important to us and regular well-being and meditation sessions are held.

EDS has recently moved to the ISA (Independent School Association) and the ISI Compliance Inspection in 2021 rated the school as “Good”.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Head/Deputy looking for variation in their role.

 We Offer

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
