Job overview

The Southport School

Headmaster

Renowned for its modern approach to boys’ education and development, The Southport School is an Anglican day and boarding school for over 1600 boys from Preschool (Kindergarten) to Year 12.  Established in 1901 at the northern end of the Gold Coast, TSS is particularly proud of its boarding traditions, with one of the largest contingents of country boarders in Australia and boarders forming one third of the entire Senior School cohort.

Balanced and holistic, TSS does not simply focus on academic scores but frames the social and emotional development of each boy as essential to his development as a whole person. The school’s learning program is driven by the principles of Positive Psychology and offers accelerated classes in the secondary school, honours classes in Prep, leadership development and emotional intelligence programs, extensive sporting opportunities, an integrated arts and cultural program, Cadets, Lego robotics, vocational education & training, a gifted & talented program, thinking & creativity skills, and access to university subjects. TSS is a member of the Great Public Schools’ (GPS) Association of Queensland and of the international Round Square movement.

With the retirement at the end of 2020 of Mr Greg Wain, who has been an outstanding and innovative Headmaster for the past 16 years, the TSS School Council now seeks a new Head for 2021. The right person will be able to faithfully and effectively live the vision for Anglican schools in Southern Queensland and support the boarding and holistic traditions and emphases of the School.

Please obtain information about the position by calling the consultant assisting the School, Kathy McLean, of Fish & Nankivell in Sydney Australia, on +61 414  376 698 (UTC/GMT +11 hours). Applications will close on Monday 18 November 2019. A concurrent search is being conducted.

Because of current Australian visa regulations, only candidates with Australian/New Zealand residency or citizenship are eligible to apply.
