A superb opportunity to lead an outstanding and renowned school.

The Trustees and Governors of St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School invite applications for the position of Headteacher. This position has arisen due to the impending retirement of Julian Ward who has led the school for the last four years.

The post offers an exciting opening for school leadership in a high performing, Catholic, selective school, where plenty of opportunities remain to promote school improvement, as reflected in our School Development Plan. Whilst we are by no means perfect, we have well behaved, enthusiastic students, committed governors, ambitious staff and supportive parents. St Michael’s is a stimulating learning environment, with a low staff turnover.

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified professional of proven leadership experience who:

  • Is a committed, practising Catholic with the vision, drive and energy to support and develop the School’s Catholic ethos.
  • Is a charismatic and inspirational leader able to deliver academic excellence whilst providing students with new opportunities to realise their all-round potential and aspirations.
  • Has the ability to work in partnership with the Governors, Deputy Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team to maintain and improve the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Is innovative and has the intellect to initiate and manage change, particularly in light of the recent Government announcements concerning the future of education.
  • Has outstanding strategic and communication skills.
  • Has an understanding of the general financial management of the school and enthusiasm for managing a new major building project, with funding in place.

We encourage and welcome potential candidates to visit the school. Please email or call Michele Cox, (mcox@st-michaels.barnet.sch.uk or 020 8446 2256) the Clerk to the Governors, to arrange a visit, where a copy of the School Development Plan will be available.

Closing date and time: 21st November 2016 at midday
Candidates invited to interview will be informed by: 24th November 2016
Interviews: 5th and 6th December 2016

The Governors are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be required to apply for a disclosure of criminal records check at an enhanced level.

In the Trusteeship of the Sisters of the Poor Child Jesus.

Ofsted

“St Michael’s is an outstanding school. Standards are exceptionally high, amongst the highest found nationally, both at GCSE and A level, and continue to improve.  The [then-] headteacher and her deputy provide outstanding leadership. They, very ably supported by the senior leadership team, have a strong vision for the education of girls rooted in the Catholic faith, which contributes so much to the ethos of the school.”
