Job overview

ST BENET BISCOP CATHOLIC ACADEMY

RC Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle

Bedlington, Northumberland

Number on Roll 1100 (11-18)

HEADTEACHER

L35 – L41

Required for September 2019

Applications are invited from practising and committed Catholics for the post of Headteacher at St Benet Biscop Catholic Academy, an 11-18 school which is part of Pax Christi Multi-Academy Trust, a small Diocesan MAT, in south-east Northumberland, comprising St Benet Biscop and one primary school.

The school is at a very important and exciting stage in its development, with the real potential to become an outstanding school. The decision to recruit a Headteacher, rather than Head of School, reflects the Diocesan and Trust’s strategy of appointing a leader with the authority, responsibility and accountability for shaping and developing all aspects of the school, building on its existing strengths and good reputation in the community.

The school is the only Catholic secondary school in Northumberland and serves a wide catchment area. The majority of its excellent students come from strong partner primary schools in Northumberland and student numbers are healthy. The school benefits from a very committed staff body and works in partnership with other LA and Diocesan schools.

This year, the school has begun to develop a strong partnership with St Mary’s Catholic School, a neighbouring outstanding Catholic Teaching School in Newcastle. This reflects the Diocesan vision of strengthening collaboration between its secondary academies and MATs. The successful applicant can, therefore, be assured of excellent support from the Trust, the Diocese and partner schools.

It is hoped that this excellent opportunity will attract both Deputy Heads looking to make the step up to their first Headship, as well as existing Headteachers, seeking a new challenge.  Above all, the Directors wish to appoint as Headteacher, a leader with:-

· A clear commitment to nurturing and promoting the school’s distinctive Catholic ethos.

· A passion for providing the best possible holistic education for all students.

· Excellent leadership qualities and management skills.

· A commitment to maximising achievement through excellence in teaching and learning.

· An excellent track record as a classroom teacher and school leader.

The above salary range may be negotiable for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate. Similarly, a re-location package may also be available.

The application pack is available to download on the school website, TES website, Schools NorthEast or e-mail the Headteacher’s PA, Mrs Marriott-Lodge, Marriott-LodgeJ@pax-christi.co.uk or telephone 01670 822795. Completed application forms should be returned to Mrs Marriott-Lodge.

For an informal discussion about this post, or to arrange a visit to the school prior to applying, please contact the interim Executive Headteacher, John Foster, via Mrs Marriott-Lodge, on the above number.

The Directors and the Diocese are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Closing date: Thursday 17th January, 2019.

Shortlisting: Monday 21st January, 2019

Interviews: Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th January, 2019
