Job overview

Innovation, Creativity, Ambition and Excellence are at our core as we encourage our students to embrace the diversity of the modern world.

If you have the vision and ambition to drive Hove Park forward as a centre of excellence locally, nationally and internationally, we can offer an unparalleled opportunity to lead our school in its development and play a key role within our evolving school led improvement agenda.

We are an 11-18 mixed Community School with over 1,600 students, located on a split site in the City of Brighton and Hove. We celebrate being the most diverse school population in the city. We were delighted to recently be awarded Teaching School status, and are currently working closely with four partner secondary schools on the establishment of The Pavilion & Downs Teaching School Alliance.

Hove Park was judged “Good” by Ofsted 2013. In an unannounced one-day inspection in October 2016 Ofsted commented: “Leaders and managers have taken effective action to maintain the high standards of behaviour and attitudes identified at the school’s previous inspection.”

The governors wish to appoint a dynamic and aspirational leader, who will build on the school’s current success and take it to the next level, following several years of innovation and improvement.

The Governors are seeking to appoint a Headteacher who will:

  • Be passionate about realising children's potential, maintaining our vision to create lifelong learners.
  • Be an exceptional leader, able to inspire and empower staff to deliver the highest quality teaching and learning, encouraging them to share knowledge and embed excellence at every level.
  • Be an innovator who embraces the use of technology to create new learning opportunities.
  • Be a strategic thinker who is also an outstanding practitioner with a clear focus on continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrate a flair for working collaboratively to develop and maintain relations with students, staff, parents/carers, governors, our neighbouring schools, Local Authority, and with the wider community.
  • Be a key strategic partner and leader within the Pavilion & Downs Teaching School Alliance.
  • Provide strategic leadership and financial planning to ensure the equitable deployment of budgets and resources, in the best interests of pupils’ achievements and the school’s sustainability.

If you visit us we hope you will be excited by the opportunity we have to offer: our positive, innovative atmosphere, our excellent and committed staff and our engaged students.

Working at Hove Park School

We are keen to recruit ambitious, self-motivated staff to help us become a nationally recognized centre of excellence, which puts achievement first for every student.

Hove Park School is located on two sites. The Valley Campus is for years 7 to 8 and Sixth Form, and Nevill Campus is for years 9 to 11. Some of our staff base themselves on one campus, and some choose to commute. The opportunity is there for staff to choose which route to take, and staff are able to change where they are based every academic year, should they wish to.

The pastoral life of the school is very important, so most teachers have their own tutor group. We operate in Year Teams, but we have Houses that we use for Sports Day and other competitions.

We have a personalized CPD programme that includes timetabled CPD sessions with colleagues from across the school. You will be keen to make the most of these opportunities, keen to learn and keen to share your learning with others.
