Job overview

This is a wonderful opportunity to lead a unique Special School into the future which are seeking to appoint an inspiring, visionary leader with the passion and determination to improve the chances of the children within the school.

Carwarden House School is a highly regarded special school for 128 students aged 11 to 19 years. Carwarden House offers education for young people who for a variety of reasons require a learning environment that is highly flexible, personalised and focused on developing independence, life and employability skills. All students at Carwarden House have a statement of special educational needs for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP’s), have moderate learning difficulties and may have associated needs such as autism, down syndrome and/or speech, language and communication needs.

The School was judged ‘Good’ (Ofsted 2014) and is now seeking to appoint a charismatic, highly-motivated leader who will inspire our dynamic senior leadership team, dedicated teachers and support staff on the next stage of the school’s development. You will be an experienced and exemplary teacher, able to demonstrate first-hand experience of senior management and leadership roles, with a readiness to assume responsibility for all aspects of school life. This will include directing the school’s strategic planning; leading the development of the curriculum and to deliver an outstanding provision which meets the needs of students working below national standards; effective planning and management of budgets and resources for both the short and longer term.

As a coach and mentor to other professionals and staff, you will be able to engage effectively with a variety of people within the school and the wider community. You will be able to work under pressure, whilst retaining a diplomacy and sensitivity to the needs of others in order to pre-empt and diffuse occasional testing situations. You will be creative and innovative, with the vision and drive to lead the next stage of Carwarden House School’s development.

You will have an in-depth knowledge of SEN and knowledge of national education strategy and the wider context for Special Schools. In return, you will enjoy strong support for your own further professional development, working alongside highly committed and supportive colleagues, with motivated and well-behaved students who enjoy learning.
