Job overview

The Diocese of St Albans Multi-Academy Trust has been established to provide for three different types of Church of England school within the Diocese of St Albans:

  • schools requiring rapid improvement having been placed in Special Measures and subject to a directive Academy Order
  • good or outstanding church schools within the Diocese of St Albans
  • new schools within new housing provision where the Diocese of St Albans is the identified sponsor

As a Church of England Multi-Academy Trust, our commitment to a locally-based education will be delivered through an approach consistent with the faith and practice of the Church of England. All academies in the Trust will be expected to deliver the curriculum within a programme of Christian values and virtues in an overarching ethos that sees each individual child as being of worth and having the capacity to grow into a fully rounded person.

The Trust is seeking to appoint a new Headteacher at Thomas Whitehead Church of England Academy in the Bedfordshire town of Houghton Regis. The successful candidate will have experience in a management position within a primary context, with proven experience of creating and leading effective, high achieving teams.

  • Thomas Whitehead is joining the Diocese of St Albans Multi-Academy Trust in Spring 2017
  • The school is currently in Special Measures following an Ofsted inspection in November 2015
  • Thomas Whitehead is a 1.5 form entry primary school which has its Christian ethos at the heart of everything it does.
  • The school is committed to all aspects of child protection. We believe that all children have the right to be protected from abuse and harm.
  • The school follows safe recruitment practices to protect children. The aim of these practices is to ensure, as far as possible, that anyone (paid or voluntary) who seeks to work in this school is safe to do so.
  • The school expects all staff and volunteers to share our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Visits to the school in advance of applications are warmly welcome.
