King Edward VI Grammar School, one of the top performing state schools in the country, wishes to recruit a dynamic, inspirational and committed Headteacher. KEGS is a historic, thriving, inclusive and forward-thinking selective grammar school, which has a unique place in the community of Chelmsford, Essex. The school is a genuine learning environment that believes in team effort and works in partnership to bring out the best in individual students and staff. The school’s aim is to continue to be a centre of academic excellence whilst offering a diverse range of extra-curricular activities including many types of sport, music, drama, the CCF and the DofE award.

The successful candidate will:

  • provide strategic and visionary leadership to ensure that the school builds on its current strengths and successes
  • be creative, enthusiastic and passionate about teaching and learning
  • be a strong, visible leader of its high calibre staff and students

They will have significant experience at senior leadership level in secondary education in a large, high-performing selective, non-selective or independent school and will continue to promote the school’s ethos of intellectual challenge and rigour, whilst nurturing a philosophy of individuality and inclusiveness.

King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford (known as KEGS locally) is a Leading Edge School, constantly testing and adapting professional practice to raise standards of teaching and learning. It is consistently one of the top ten grammar schools in the country and lends itself to being a natural leader with an international reputation as a centre of learning. The School is regularly in the top five in A Level league tables, and the top ten at GCSE.

We aim to optimise learning, and to educate the ‘whole person’ through excellence in the highest level of pastoral care and support in every aspect of our work.
