Job overview

Headteacher, Workington Academy (part of Cumbria Education Trust)

Start date: January 2018

Closing date: Monday 18 September 2017

Salary: Competitive to attract the best

Workington Academy has achieved a great deal in the past few years, bringing together staff and students from two predecessor schools and ensuring the smooth transition to a brand new state of the art building in March 2017. However, as with a number of coastal schools, Workington has faced a number of challenges.

With support from Cumbria Education Trust, we are looking forward to the future and the opportunity to improve, develop and grow in the coming months and years.

We are looking for a successful and passionate leader to take up this fantastic opportunity and become the new Headteacher of Workington Academy. We are looking for someone who can implement rigorous school improvement and take the academy to the next level of educational excellence, within a fast-changing educational landscape. Equally as importantly, we are looking for someone who understands and is committed to Workington and its local community.

Our new Headteacher will be a natural leader, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at strategic level within the Trust, including Headteachers and senior leaders across other Trust academies to share best practice. In addition to this, it is crucial that you will have a sound understanding of the new progress measures and how to achieve success within these parameters. We are committed to providing our students with the means to achieve and experience success at all key stages, and this will be a strong focus for our new Headteacher.

Whether you are a serving Headteacher or a successful senior leader looking for your first whole school leadership role, what is clear is that you will have an exceptional track record of success, specifically in relation to school improvement and positive outcomes for all students regardless of their background.

Headteacher's Welcome:

As the Headteacher of Workington Academy, I am immensely proud of the high standard of education we provide to all of our students. We are a community school, driven to provide the absolute best experiences and opportunities to every young person at the Academy. Our ethos of ‘Be The Best You Can Be’ is at the heart of everything we do, whether in the classroom or on the sports field. Underpinning our ethos are the core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience. Through these values, we are able to round and develop every child in our school and prepare them for a full and rewarding life. As a proud member of Cumbria Education Trust (CET), we work proactively with all our trust schools, to develop an excellent curriculum that supports students in achieving the very best outcomes. Alongside this we also work together to provide outstanding extra-curricular opportunities in the areas of sport, design, leadership and expressive arts.

We strive to continuously improve, never resting on our laurels, always looking for the next step to maximise student outcomes or improve student engagement. We are passionate about going the extra mile for all our students, supporting them to be the best versions of themselves.
