Upper Lumsdale, Matlock
Derbyshire DE4 5NA
The governors at Highfields School are looking to appoint an outstandingly innovative, inspirational and caring Head Teacher who shares our commitment to ensuring that every student is supported in achieving to their full potential.
We are seeking a Head Teacher with a passion for working with young people, who, in partnership with all their colleagues, will guide the whole learning community in our school’s next phase of development. We need you to be an enthusiastic collaborator, an excellent communicator and be skilled at identifying and tackling areas of underachievement with vigour.
Highfields is a friendly, welcoming inclusive school on the edge of Derbyshire’s Peak District. It has an 11-18 intake, with 1,200 students including 212 in the Sixth Form. Pupils come from Matlock and the surrounding rural area. We know our pupils well, value a broad curriculum, and have a highly motivated staff team, many of whom choose to send their children here.
Many pupils choose Highfields because of our strong performing arts and emphasis on creativity which enriches the curriculum and wider life of the school. Highfields has strengths in many areas, for example the Maths department successfully supported 35 students to achieve Maths A level this year. Many sixth form students act as mentors to pupils in the school. Highfields is also a Sports Leadership Academy - 350 of our students are taking a range of leadership qualifications and acting as sports ambassadors. Sports leaders are great role models and increase extra-curricular involvement both in our school and local primary schools. Highfields Sixth Form has been rated outstanding by OFSTED, who acknowledged how well-rounded the students are, as well as being successful independent learners.
We hope you will choose to come and visit our school prior to application, where you will appreciate the many other areas of strength we have within our students, across our broad curriculum, and in our commitment to work together within a truly inclusive ethos.
Please contact Jacqui Wheatcroft on 01629 832354 if you would like to come for an informal visit on either Wednesday 17th January at 9am, or on Wednesday January 24th at 11am. If you have any questions about the school, please contact Vice-Chair of Governors, Paul Steeples on 07557 969971.
We look forward to receiving your application.
Committed to safeguarding the welfare of our students.
