Job overview

Students on Roll: 755

Situated on the North Devon coastline in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the Governors of Braunton Academy are seeking an energetic, outward looking, values driven Headteacher from September 2021.

The school is a thriving community of 750 11-16 year olds serving a rural and coastal catchment.

The Academy is substantially oversubscribed. This reflects the confidence of the local community in the educational provision it provides to its students and their families.

The new Headteacher will wish to lead the school from a very positive 'Good' OFSTED grading (January 2020) to an 'Outstanding' grading through the continued implementation of a '21st Century Trivium' based pedagogy which embraces a detailed metacognitive approach.

What is special about Braunton Academy?

  • Our students
  • Our staff
  • Our successes
  • Our caring and supportive ethos
  • Our drive for continuous improvement

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS disclosure is required for this post.

Values and vision

Braunton Academy aims to promote and nurture a true love of learning amongst its students. The school also aims to enable its students’ personal growth through, among other things, promoting students’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development through a full understanding of how Citizenship and PSHEE contribute to preparation for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of life. The school is also keen to embrace new technologies which maximise the effectiveness of learning.

There is also a desire to promote democracy at the school. Students have many opportunities for their voices to be heard. The school has academy and house councils which meet regularly to discuss issues raised by either the students or staff in tutor group meetings. The academy council even has its own budget and is able to genuinely effect change within the school.

Ofsted

“The principal provides a clear vision that is helping to raise standards. His determined leadership has ensured that the areas that required improvement at the previous inspection have been tackled. The school’s motto of ‘Aspire and Achieve’ is central to all aspects of the school’s work. Pupils benefit from a wide range of opportunities in and out of school.”
