Job overview

Owing to the retirement of the present headteacher, the Governing Board of Instow Primary and Pre School are looking to appoint a motivated and inspirational leader, with vision, drive and passion, who will continue to build on the school’s success and will lead the school community through the developmental opportunities ahead. The successful candidate will take up post in September 2022.

This is an exciting opening for an experienced leader who has a proven record of creating a positive teaching and learning culture and is able to lead change and innovation. Applications will be welcomed from established headteachers as well as from successful school leaders.

Instow Primary and Pre School is a 5-class school with a newly built Pre-school facility, that was opened in September 2021, on the beautiful North Devon coast with probably one of the best views in the west of England. This could be your opportunity to have a change of lifestyle in a desirable part of England with professional satisfaction.

Since 2015 Instow Community Primary has been part of a co-operative trust known as the Atlantic Coast Co-operative Trust working with seven other schools in North Devon, improving the life-chances of young people in our region. We have similar challenges in a range of communities, but share one common aim, to offer young people better opportunities in their education.

Instow Primary and Pre School is a serially “Good” school: in fact, Ofsted reported in 2016 that “Instow Primary School is a good and improving school and a thriving learning community”; “Parents are effusive in their praise for the school. In their comments in the online survey, Parent View, many refer to the school’s ‘fabulous community spirit’ and say that their children ‘love going to school to learn’”. As one parent put it in a recent annual survey “It’s a family school, Head & Teachers know almost everyone by name (inclusive of parents) greeted with a smile each day, you honestly feel your child is safe/cared for and is being guided with a fun/positive attitude toward learning. Each and every child seems supportive of their friends/peers and new starters. I couldn’t have wished for a better school for my child to start his education path”.

So we are looking to appoint someone with the experience and the personal qualities to lead the school on the next part of our journey to become “Outstanding”. Over the last nine years, the school has developed under the leadership of the current Head and with the commitment of the staff, and is now ready to take the next steps.

We are looking for an inspiring educator who will recognise and build on the strengths within the team while seeking creative and proven routes to improve both outcomes and the experience of school for the children.

Safeguarding

At Instow Community Primary and Pre-School we take our duty of safeguarding pupils and their families very seriously. Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post will be subject to undertaking an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check
