Job overview

Ambition   Adventure   Achievement

Ladysmith Infant and Nursery School is a successful, vibrant and popular infant school in a thriving district of Exeter. Rated Outstanding by Ofsted, it is part of the Ladysmith Federation along with the adjacent Ladysmith Junior School, offering wonderful facilities for children to enrich their learning. The federation’s vision is ‘Ambition, Adventure, Achievement’ and it has a long-standing record of achieving high standards for its diverse catchment.

The Federation governors are seeking to appoint a new Federation Headteacher to Ladysmith Infant and Nursery School. Although this person would be responsible for his/her own school the governors expect the heads of both Federation schools to create a shared strategic vision and a shared drive to implement the Federation Improvement Plan. The two schools are part of the River Exe Learning Partnership working with other similar-sized schools and we believe that collaboration is at the heart of our continued success.

The Infant School is a three-form entry school with excellent on-site facilities and an attached 100-place nursery. The catchment area is relatively diverse with 23% of pupils whose first language is not English. The School is inclusive and all pupils have good attitudes to learning and make good progress.

The Infant School is located near the centre of Exeter in a large Edwardian building with a range of newer classrooms. It has a dedicated forest school area and a bright new dining area, community room and kitchen.

We are looking to appoint a candidate who:

  • understands the importance of a shared strategic vision for their school as part of the Ladysmith Federation and can lead their teams to foster a wide-reaching Federation ethos;
  • can continue to build on our strong relationships across the Federation and with parents, other local schools and the wider community;
  • has proven leadership, interpersonal and management skills;
  • is innovative, inspirational and able to motivate our staff and children ensuring they feel valued and supported;
  • has high expectations for each child to reach their potential through the provision of rich and varied opportunities.

Above all we are looking for someone who will relish this opportunity not only to lead their own school but to work in close collaboration with the sister school for the benefit of all our children.

If you are interested in this opportunity we look forward to meeting you and receiving your application. Visits to the two schools are actively encouraged. Please contact Alison Peart, Bursar Ladysmith Infant and Nursery school, on 01392 271596 with any queries or to arrange to visit the School.

For an application form contact Babcock LDP on 01392 287296 or e-mail LDP-adminheadships@babcockinternational.com

Applications close at noon on 05.12.16.
Interviews: week beginning 09.01.17.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. The post requires an enhanced DBS check.
