Job overview

Could you be our new inspirational and innovative Headteacher?

George Spicer Primary School is a large, successful primary school based in Enfield, North London. The school is a short walk from both the town centre and Enfield Town train station. We are proud of our latest SATs results, with 87% of our pupils meeting or exceeding age-related expectations for combined reading, writing and maths at the end of Key Stage 2, 22% above the national average. This has been achieved against a backdrop of rapid expansion over recent years as we have grown from a two-form entry, single site school to a four-form entry, split site school, with 810 pupils currently.

We like to be independent in our thinking and, using the opportunities provided by being a larger school, to be flexible and innovative; yet we also work collaboratively with the Enfield Town Schools’ Partnership. We have a unique curriculum designed to ignite the curiosity of our eager children who come from diverse backgrounds. We have a team of over 150 staff, many of whom have chosen to develop their careers at George Spicer. This is reflected in our high intake of Schools Direct and Graduate Teaching Assistants.

We are a ‘Good’ school, judged by Ofsted in February 2017, and we have achieved UNICEF’s Gold: Rights Respecting Schools Award. Our mission statement ‘Growing to Succeed’ encourages all of our pupils to make a positive contribution to both the local and global communities.

We offer our new Headteacher:

  • enthusiastic, friendly and happy children who embody our school values of ‘Respect, Responsibility and Perseverance’
  • a welcoming, thriving environment with dedicated and committed staff
  • a proactive PTA who raise significant funds for the school (over £30,000 in the past year)
  • an engaged Board of Governors who will support you to maintain consistently high standards across the school
  • opportunities for you to be innovative and forward-thinking.

Our new Headteacher will:

  • be an inspirational leader with a track record of improving outcomes for children
  • embrace our school values and continue to build on our strengths
  • be able to develop our children to achieve their aspirations
  • ensure that the unique needs of every child are recognised
  • maintain excellent communication with governors, parents, pupils, staff and the wider community
  • have high expectations of themselves and others and lead the school’s professional learning team with enthusiasm.

School visits are welcomed and encouraged. Please contact Mrs Campbell, School Business Manager (ecampbell@georgespicer.enfield.sch.uk) to arrange a visit.

A job description, person specification, letter from the Chair of Governors and application form can be downloaded from our school website: www.georgespicer.enfield.sch.uk/our-school/vacancies. Please email your completed application form to ecampbell@georgespicer.enfield.sch.uk. CVs will not be accepted.
