Job overview

The High School Leckhampton is a new, purpose built, 11-16 comprehensive secondary school, which will open in September 2021 as part of The Balcarras Multi Academy Trust.

We are looking for an exceptional educator to lead the development of this exciting project. The outstanding leader we are seeking to appoint will be able to demonstrate:

• Proven experience of leadership within a successful secondary school

• The leadership skills to inspire and engage with staff, pupils, parents and the local community

• The resilience, energy and vision to establish the school on strong foundations so that in five years time it will rival Balcarras as one of the best schools in the country

• A sound awareness of current and future educational developments

• A strong grasp of school and financial administration

• A track record as an excellent classroom practitioner with a strong commitment to comprehensive education

Exceptional communication skills, combined with interpersonal warmth and humour are seen as prerequisites by the Trustees. A demonstrable interest in the wider educational community would be beneficial.

Ideally the successful applicant will be available to take up the post in January 2021, (initially based at the Balcarras School site), to prepare for the opening of the new school to 120 Year 7 pupils only in September 2021. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to develop a new school up to its capacity of 900 pupils, in a wonderful location in south Cheltenham against a backdrop of The Cotswold Hills.

Our aim at Balcarras is simple: we want this to be one of the very best schools in the country. We aim to ensure that our students receive a better education here than they would at any other school, be it comprehensive, grammar or independent. To this end we were delighted recently to win The Sunday Times Southwest State School of the Decade Award.

We pride ourselves that this is a school where every individual is valued and feels safe, where all students are inspired not only to do their best but to expand their horizons, and where everyone involved in school life feels a great sense of pride and enjoyment at being part of this community.

We are keen to emphasise not just academic success but those areas which bring colour and vitality to the student experience, such as art, drama, sport, music and the full range of extra-curricular activities on offer. I do hope that this visit to the school’s website will give you a flavour of some of these things and an insight into what makes the school a special place to be.

If you would like to follow up your virtual tour with a real one please get in touch.
