Our vision is for all students to be well rounded young adults and lead as independent lives as possible. Dove House thrives on high aspirations and expectations for both students and staff, leading to excellence in both academic and personal progress. Our teaching community provides an outstanding teaching and learning experience for all. At Dove House we are guided by the simple question, ‘Have I made a difference today?’

The Trustees are looking for a Headteacher who will build on the existing strong ethos of the school while seeking new opportunities for the future.

Our new Headteacher will be:

  • A strong leader with the skills and ability to inspire and develop others.
  • An excellent communicator and a team player.
  • Experienced in a student-centred SEN/D environment.
  • Experienced in school business management.
  • Visible and actively involved in day-to-day activities; knowing every student as an individual.

As a special school Dove House has developed the facilities and teaching expertise to meet the special needs of it’s pupils.

Alongside the National Curriculum for the secondary phase, apart from a modern foreign language, we offer expertise in ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder, PALS (Pupil Additional Literacy Support), OT (Occupational Therapy) and SaLT (Speech and Language Therapy) and also offer a comprehensive life skills course which is designed to give each pupil the necessary skills for independent living when they leave school.

Aims for pupils:

  • To develop their knowledge, skills, experience and imagination to their maximum.
  • To be able, by the end of their school careers, to take a full and active part in society as independently as possible.
  • To grow into a well rounded young adult, able to live as independently as possible
  • To take the lead in living an inspirational happy life.

Aims for Teaching and Learning:

  • To provide educational experiences which are more effective than that offered in a mainstream school for children with learning difficulties.
  • To provide learning situations and tasks which are stimulating, informative, planned and relevant.
  • To minimise the effect of, or compensate for any disabilities.
  • To provide a curriculum which goes beyond the classroom and prepares the pupil for the adult world of work, leisure and potential parenthood.

Aims for the School:

  • To be a place in which the children feel confident, safe and secure.
  • To be a place where the pupils and their parents feel individually known and with which they are proud to be connected.
  • To be an organisation, which is highly regarded and valued by the pupils, parents and the community to be an environment in which it is a pleasure to work.
