Job overview

Gladesmore is a thriving, local community school and a beacon in Tottenham. As a diverse, aspirational and inclusive 11 – 16 school, we provide young people with a happy and successful environment within which to learn and achieve. The school serves a community of high economic disadvantage; typically, over 50% of our pupils (1300 currently) are eligible for free school meals, but that is no barrier to their success.

Our school thrives because our culture is based on everyone living our values – Respect, Enthusiasm, Attitude, Co-operation and Hard work. We have benefited from strong leadership, a consensual and pragmatic approach and effective partnerships. We work with top educational universities and institutions, as well as local businesses and community organisations. It is no surprise that we are oversubscribed and in great demand.

Our current Headteacher Tony Hartney CBE, has decided to step down after a highly successful tenure over two decades. The school is in a strong position but we are not complacent. The challenges ahead are greater than ever, as we strive for further academic and pastoral excellence for all our pupils, and for ways to do things even better.

We are therefore looking for an outstanding, dynamic and inspirational leader to work with Governors and the wider community, to lead our vision and turn our future ambitions into a reality.

You will have a demonstrable track record of successful school leadership and will understand the complexities of leading a diverse, inner-city school. You may be an experienced headteacher looking for a new challenge. Alternatively, you may be a deputy headteacher or head of school ready for the next step. Either way, your exceptional inclusive leadership skills and emotional intelligence are likely to set you apart. Your ability to establish relationships with the broadest range of individuals and organisations will be critical to our future success.

You will benefit from an enthusiastic and energetic team of leaders and staff, who are loyal and committed to the successful future of Gladesmore Community School.

Closing Date: Friday 28th January 2022

Values and Vision

The school's values are represented by the acronym REACH: respect, enthusiasm, attitude, cooperation and hard work. Its goals are to improve outcomes and quality of learning for pupils; to provide effective leadership and management; to safeguard the welfare of pupils; and to promote good behaviour and personal development. Gladesmore's aspirations are high, and successive, Ofsted reports have shown that students make great progress even from the lowest of starting points and rate it as exceptional overall.

The school is one of very few to have received the Queen’s Award for Service and the Princess Diana Award for anti-bullying. It has actively led a number of  initiatives, including Value Life, which tackled gun and knife crime, Everybody Dreams, and a song for London which has been enormously popular making a positive impact in the community.

Ofsted

“Under the exceptional and enthusiastic leadership of the headmaster, students and staff grow rapidly as part of the Gladesmore family. Governors and all leaders support students to achieve outstanding levels of success in all aspects of their lives. Students are keen to excel. The very positive relationships that have been fostered within the school, combined with the excellent attitudes to learning, enable students to make outstanding progress.”
