Shaftesbury High School is a secondary aged special school for over 160 students aged 11 to 19, who experience a wide range of learning difficulties, including emotional, behavioural, communication, medical, physical, sensory and social needs. It is a maintained local authority school.

Due to the retirement of our outstanding Headteacher we are seeking to appoint a passionate, innovative, visionary leader who will continue to build on the outstanding track record of the school. We seek to develop our children as courageous, confident learners, through an innovative approach to the curriculum, assessment and partnerships with other schools and research institutions.

The Governors of Shaftesbury are looking for:

• an experienced leader with an excellent knowledge of the learning needs of pupils with a range of complex learning difficulties
• an emotionally intelligent individual who is able to use well developed interpersonal skills and reflective attributes to effectively lead a dynamic school community
• a creative individual with the skills to develop a shared vision for an education in the 21st century that challenges all barriers to learning. This vision extends to supporting opportunities for our learners up to the age of 25, in partnership with others
• a confident professional with the continuous drive and ambition to raise standards and aspirations for the whole school
• a leader who understands and values the contribution of families to the school community.
