Headteacher

Due to the forthcoming retirement of our longstanding Headteacher, the trustees of Knightsfield School are seeking to appoint an inspirational, dynamic and enthusiastic Headteacher to lead our academy for secondary aged deaf pupils where communication is based on auditory/oral methods. We are seeking to appoint an individual with the skills and vision to build on our current successes and achievements: someone who will share and take forward the School’s vision and ethos and aspirations for our pupils. We are looking for someone who is passionate and creative, who will maintain our high quality provision, working with the whole school community to lead us forward and continue our growth and excellence.

Knightsfield School was purpose built to a high specification and is extremely well resourced. It is located in Welwyn Garden City and has strong links with a mainstream secondary school with whom it shares a campus. The location has excellent road and rail networks to both London and the north.

Our new head teacher will:

• Be an experienced teacher and a confident and positive leader.
• Have 3 - 5 years experience at senior level in the education of pupils with SEN/complex needs
• Have high expectations of pupils’ learning and behaviour and a clear vision for the future of the school.
• Build solid relationships working in partnership with staff, pupils, parents and trustees.
• Be committed to working in partnership with mainstream and further education provision giving our pupils wider opportunities for development.
• Be able to effectively manage staff and monitor the quality of teaching and learning.
• Be committed to promoting and marketing our school.

Knightsfield School a specialist academy for hearing impaired pupils and is located in purpose-built premises in Knightsfield, Welwyn Garden City. The school is conveniently placed for access to other towns in Hertfordshire, with good road and rail connections to London and other parts of the country. The majority of pupils have a severe or profound hearing loss. The school's policy is that pupils are taught by auditory/oral methods. The school curriculum reflects the requirements of the National Curriculum with differentiation and approaches which address the special educational needs of hearing impaired pupils.

The successful and long standing inclusion programme with Monk's Walk Secondary School and Oaklands College is led by the Liaison & Partnership Co-ordinator. All pupils integrate for P.E. and for some other subjects. All integrating pupils are supported by staff from Knightsfield School. In November 2014 the school was inspected by Ofsted and was graded outstanding for the third time.

Ofsted reported that: "The school has a calm, harmonious & purposeful atmosphere. Students are eager to learn & highly attentive in lessons. Students achievement is outstanding because staff have an excellent understanding of how best to promote students with hearing impairment."
