Job overview

Are you committed to supporting vulnerable young people to reach their full potential by re-engaging with education in a therapeutic environment?  Can you motivate educational professionals to deliver excellent tailor-made provision for pupils with a range of needs and challenging behaviours?  Are you a strong leader, with the energy and stamina to head a team that focuses on the best possible outcome for every individual child?

The Caldecott Foundation’s Board of Trustees is looking to appoint an inspirational Headteacher for the Caldecott School, a non-maintained special school for children with SEN, ASD and SEMH needs.

Leading the way in therapeutic care and education, the Caldecott Foundation helps  disadvantaged young people to overcome the challenges of their past, believing that, with the right care and support, every child can build a positive future.  The Caldecott Foundation has five Outstanding children’s homes and its Fostering service is also rated Outstanding by Ofsted.

At the Caldecott School, a creative curriculum including vocational courses together with a wide range of extra-curricular activities strengthen the social and emotional development of young people, as well as their academic progress.    The school’s Therapy team work collaboratively and seamlessly with teaching and support staff to improve our pupils’ mental health & wellbeing.

Over the last year the Caldecott School has developed its offer and facilities including a new dedicated Primary School and a house providing weekday boarding for pupils. Further plans are in place to develop a forest school and new facilities for those students who struggle even in small class group settings.

We are seeking an innovative and determined individual to continue to drive forward these developments, building on the success of the Caldecott School’s current plans in facilitating young people to achieve positive outcomes in education and across all areas of their lives.

Responsible for all primary and secondary education, and holding the NPQH desirable, as the successful Head Teacher candidate and in addition to fulfilling the duties and responsibilities inherent in Headship, you will be able to demonstrate:

 A strong track record of transformative senior leadership and extensive experience in supporting students with SEN, preferably those with SEMH needs, ASD and speech and language difficulties;

 The passion, clarity of vision and strategic capabilities to shape the future of a provision that’s leading the way in therapeutic education;

 A clear understanding of what it takes to achieve an Outstanding from Ofsted and what is needed to support all students to make exceptional levels of progress;

 The skills and ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, carers, commissioners and colleagues from across the organisation;

 Experience of delivering a broad and balanced curriculum programme;

 Dedication to the professional development and progression of your staff team;

In return for the above we will offer you the opportunity to work within a dedicated multi-disciplinary team and access new opportunities for professional development, as well as an excellent remuneration package. About Caldecott Foundation School

From bases in Kent and Nottinghamshire, the Caldecott Foundation provides vulnerable young people from across the UK with therapeutic residential care, foster families and education.  Ofsted has rated five of our children’s homes and our fostering service as “Outstanding”, with all of our other services rated as “Good”.

The Caldecott School is our own on-site school in Kent for pupils with specific, identified educational needs and those who require bespoke intervention.  The Caldecott School offers weekly boarding for pupils and dedicated environments for Primary and Secondary provision.  Through our education services, young people from our children’s homes, fostering placements and those attending as day pupils can access a wide range of individualised learning packages, from home tutoring to small group ‘nurturing classrooms’ led by qualified teachers and support into a mainstream school.

All of our services are delivered in line with the ‘Caldecott Relational Model’ which underpins our ethos, values and practice. Our model supports children and young people to feel safe through the development of nurturing, reparative relationships. Through the consistent application of our Relational Model across the entire organisation we are able to offer our young people the experience of a secure base from which they can feel safe enough to address issues in their lives positively.

Our therapeutic care and education services are delivered by highly motivated staff supported by our in house therapy team through regular case management, group supervision and mentalisation. Our Clinical Psychologists provide detailed psychological assessments that feed into bespoke treatment plans designed to meet the individual needs of each young person.

Our Mission Statement
