Already ranked 7th in Kent, we are seeking our next leader with the vision, passion, and skills to lead our school to a life beyond outstanding.

Situated in the heart of King's Hill is The Discovery School which is oversubscribed and boasts a vibrant atmosphere of friendly and supportive members of the community.

We are an outstanding school with a supportive Governing Body who recognise how challenging taking on a successful school can be. With this in mind we are here to support and encourage the new Headteacher in their continued professional development; likewise, the Headteacher will be committed to the career development of the staff team.

There will be plenty of exciting challenges to really make your mark at The Discovery School and also enhance your career prospects by further developing our school.

Our new Headteacher will work with the governors and the school community to evolve the vision and strategic direction of the school. They will lead the development of the school by understanding the challenges we face and opportunities which arise (e.g. making the most of our external partnerships and collaborations and developing areas of curriculum specialism) to maintain our strong status and lead us to being the very best school we can be.

The Discovery School is set on the Kings Hill Development near to the village of West Malling.
It opened in September 2003 to help cater for the growing primary population at Kings Hill.
The Discovery School is an innovative design fit for education in the 21st Century and is due to be extended within the next 2 years for opening in September 2008. 

We pride ourselves in providing a caring friendly environment where it is possible to know all our children and their families. We aim to give the highest priority to academic excellence through a broad based balanced and exciting creative curriculum. We aim to nurture happy confident children with enquiring minds who learn to succeed and to contribute to their class, their school environment and the wider community. We hope that every child will want to be
at The Discovery School everyday and we will promise to work hard with you to ensure this is achieved. 

The Discovery School offers support and guidance to parents at many levels and we receive truly amazing generosity and support in return. You as parents are the first and most important natural teachers to your child and we aim to encourage and nurture that important link for the good of all children. 

The pupils, staff, governors and parents are all extremely proud of our school and I feel privileged to have been involved from its embryonic stage to it’s opening on September 4 2003.

Together we make our school a safe happy caring environment where every child is valued and listened to and where together we strive to realise our hopes and expectations for all children.

Mission Statement

At The Discovery School we aim to guide and support our children’s development, shaping them for life as well as giving them the essential tools for learning. We believe that Primary Education is about our children having the opportunity to experience the joy of discovery, to solve problems, to be creative in writing, art, music and dance whilst developing as self-confident learners and thus maturing socially and emotionally as young citizens.

Aim

We aim to deliver a broad, balanced creative and differentiated curriculum focusing on raising standards for all whilst making learning relevant and fun. We will encourage our children to take the lead in their own learning. We aim to provide a happy and safe learning environment where each child is valued and listened to.

Our goal at The Discovery School is to combine excellence in teaching with the enjoyment of learning for all.

We will do this by:

Taking ownership of the curriculum.
Using performance data targets to help every child.
Ensuring that learning is focused on individual pupil needs and abilities.
Keeping a focus on standards.
Ensuring that the achievements of all children are recognised.
Providing a rich, creative and exciting curriculum where each subject is taught outstandingly well.
Using a tailored approach to support gifted children and children with additional educational needs.
Ensuring that children are supported at the point of admission, transfer and transition.
Ensuring that enjoyment of learning is at the heart of all we do.
