Alma Park focuses on the education, development and wellbeing of our pupils and staff, and takes pride in its strong relationship with parents and carers, and with our community. Our school is in a culturally very diverse area, and we actively celebrate diversity and promote equality of opportunity for all our children and their families. We are proud to be regarded as a model of inclusion for children with Special Educational Needs, and the school has a Special Resource Base for pupils who are deaf or hearing impaired, including an assessment provision at EYFS. Sign language is valued as a community language throughout the school, alongside the many other languages spoken by members of our school community.

The current Headteacher will be retiring this year, and the Governors are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, dedicated and inspirational new Headteacher with a vision for excellence and innovation, to take up the post in September.

We are seeking

  • A new Headteacher who will demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting the ethos of the school, who will be approachable and visible around the school to children, staff, parents and carers.
  • An individual who will motivate, inspire and develop teachers and support staff whilst also ensuring well-being is valued and promoted at the core of the school.
  • A strong communicator who will work collaboratively with the highly experienced Senior Leadership Team and Governors and build effective relationships with all.
  • A champion for all of our children, who understands the wide range of experiences and needs that make up our school community and how this can impact on wellbeing and achievement and shows creative ideas for how to bring the best out in our children.

Governors and staff are highly motivated to support a new Headteacher coming into this post, and are committed to working with the new Headteacher to ensure that Alma Park remains an excellent school that supports and is supported by the whole school community.

Our catchment includes children from many different cultural backgrounds and 72% of our children have English as an additional language. 23% of children receive Free School Meals. There is a high percentage of children with SEN, including 20 children with education Health and Care Plans. We have a very good track record in terms of our partnerships with a range of external agencies (e.g. EP, SALT, CAMHS, Children’s Services, district working, local special schools and medical professionals) in order to maximise the effectiveness of our provision to meet the particular needs of the learners.

We ensure that the children receive a broad, balanced curriculum that is enriched by visits and visitors. Themes of sustainability and the global dimension are strong and are developed through children’s learning experiences across the curriculum. French is taught across the school. There is a successful breakfast reading club and many opportunities for children to be involved in sports, arts, music and craft activities. We have large grounds, which we use to enhance children’s learning outside the classroom.

A private after school and holiday club is available on site for our children and other local schools. We continue to work proactively with our extended schools cluster on many areas, including Nursery provision, safeguarding, curriculum development, current local and national issues.

We work closely to develop strong partnerships with parents, and regard our excellent relationships with them as crucial to our ethos, successes and continuing development. The PTA and Governing Body are proactive, supportive and very involved in the life, evaluation and aims of the school.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check
