“Having built the foundations for an outstanding school, we are looking for an inspirational leader to help propel our school into a centre of outstanding achievement and well-being excellence.” Monmouth Comprehensive School Governing Body

The Governing Body of Monmouth Comprehensive School (MCS) is looking to appoint an inspirational leader who has the passion, determination and skills to take our successful school to the next stage. We are a school with a strong culture and belief, based on our values of Independence, Success, Security, Freedom with Responsibility and Respect. We are a school that is wedded to the comprehensive ideal by providing every child with an education that enables all children to achieve high standards and to Learn to lead their Lives.
Our 11-19 school community (number on roll 1,660) is made-up of students from both sides of the border, England and Wales.  The school has high standards of achievement and we are looking for a leader committed to ensuring every child achieves their full potential making us one of the highest performing schools in Wales.

We are very much at the heart of our community and heavily involved with many community projects whether this be through the work of the charity committee, World Challenge, Duke of Edinburgh, meeting with members of the town council or through the extra-curricular programme we offer from rowing to theatre productions, concerts and, of course, our annual Eisteddfod.
We are very proud of our new £46 million school building, opened in September 2018, designed and created by the whole school community. The environment is a truly superb facility, not only because learning can be delivered in a dynamic and flexible way but, students and staff are able to develop together a shared and distributed approach to learning. This, together with the latest technology and innovation in learning spaces, allows learning to be responsive and bespoke to the learner.

We are a school that aims to serve the needs of every child in our community by offering a wide and diverse curriculum and qualifications and programmes for all learners. The school has a designated Special Needs Resource Base and is able to provide for complex learning needs in an inclusive and innovative way that has led to the school being recognised for its approach and success. Our Sixth Form is one of the largest Sixth Forms (350) in the region and supports students to be well prepared for their next step.

In return, we, as a Governing Body, can offer:

  • A committed Governing Body that will provide support and challenge drawing from a wide range of talents and skills from many backgrounds, professions and industries that can help with the strategic development of the school.
  • A commitment to supporting every child to achieve their full potential.
  • A truly comprehensive school community with an outstanding student body drawn from a range of urban and rural backgrounds who are very proud of their school.
  • A dedicated, highly professional collaborative staff who are passionate about their school and the care and wellbeing of every student.
  • A Local Authority that is determined to provide the best for every child and is able to work closely with the school.
  • A dynamic group of cluster primary headteachers that work as one with our school to provide a continuum of learning from 3-19.
  • A regional consortia that can provide on-going bespoke support and professional development.

And, lastly, our school is based in the centre of the historic town of Monmouth on the banks of the river Wye. Monmouth has recently been voted one of the top ten places to live in Britain (The Sunday Times).

If you have the passion, commitment, dedication and, importantly, the expertise to want to lead our school and lead it forward with excellence, then we want to hear from you.
