Job overview

City of Norwich School, An Ormiston Academy

Are you a talented leader capable of achieving continuous rapid improvement at the academy and delivering a challenging development plan, then City of Norwich (CNS) may be the place for you? We are looking to find a replacement for our current outstanding Headteacher who is retiring at the end of this academic year.

CNS is a 1,600 student 11-18 academy with 400 in the sixth form, and one of ten Ormiston academies in the Eastern region and one of 31 academies within our OAT network. As such the academy has access to a collaborative network of national best practice and the resources of a local family.

CNS believe in “Excellence in All” and as an academy with a strong 106 year tradition, it continues to maintain strong values and ethos especially when pressures may compromise beliefs. At the very heart of the CNS ethos is being a truly comprehensive academy that supports the care and development of the whole individual. Any successful applicant must buy-in and commit to driving forward these values now and in the future.

The October 2016 Ofsted judgement rated CNS ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features. The effectiveness of management and leadership was rated as outstanding and the report highlighted “the excellent leadership of the Headteacher, along with the Head of School and other senior leaders, has precipitated the school’s rapid improvement.” The challenge therefore for a new Headteacher will be to join an already very successful group of leaders throughout the academy/school and continue to harness their energies and talents to drive the school/academy to greater success.

The successful applicant will be joining a caring academy with a very supportive senior leadership team, strong staff leadership throughout the academy and well developed student leadership. The academy’s sponsor OAT, is one of the founding trusts of the academies movement and is continually seeking the country’s best leaders to join their team. The educational landscape has dramatically changed, but OAT’s core mission remains the same – for all young people to have the highest academic, social and practical skills to allow them to lead a fulfilling life. We are determined to become the Trust that makes the biggest difference and to be the most effective network of academies.

You will have access to excellent professional networks and support, and OAT will actively encourage and support your continued professional development by providing opportunities.

If you are an experienced successful leader in a secondary setting, with an excellent track record of sustained improvement and a determination to maximise the opportunities available, then this role offers an excellent opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment.

Applicants must be highly motivated, driven and committed to high quality teaching and learning and believe in the ethos and values of CNS. You should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached. You must be confident and positive with a “can-do” attitude that can inspire and engage students, staff and our local community. You must display compassion and be familiar with holding staff accountable, whilst being accountable yourself. Above all, you will share our passion and belief that children, their learning and developing their potential is at the heart of all decisions.

We offer a very competitive pay and package including:

  • Private healthcare for self and family
  • Annual Performance related bonus of up to 10% of base salary
  • Unparalleled CPD opportunities, both at individual academy and across the OAT family
  • Exposure to leading edge SI practices and professionals and the chance to make a bigger difference with a fantastic family of principals and staff.

Closing date: 13th March 2017
Interviews: 22 and 23 March 2017

City of Norwich School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the DBS.
