Job overview

“Achievement for All”

Sherburn High School is a secondary school with 748 students including Sixth Form. Based in the attractive market town of Sherburn in Elmet, it is rated as Good by Ofsted (April 2017). Now is a particularly good time to be joining us as we build on our close relationships with 9 other local schools as part of the newly formed STAR MAT.

As a school, we pride ourselves on our commitment to high quality teaching and innovative and diverse approaches to teaching and learning, ensuring our students are stimulated, engaged and enthusiastic. Our curriculum is carefully planned to maximize pupils’ success and we are also recognised for the excellent pastoral and careers support we provide to our students.

This is a real opportunity to make a significant difference in a school which has clearly identified objectives and a real desire to achieve. The new Headteacher will need the presence, ambition and the expertise to deliver strong, clear leadership, raising expectations across the school community and building on our improvement plan.

Supported by the Governing Body, you will be involved in developing plans within the STAR MAT, using your abilities to build partnerships and influence thinking. You will also need to be financially astute, effectively managing resources while building teams and ensuring our friendly, caring culture is maintained.

Potential applicants are encouraged to visit our school to see the enthusiasm that our children have for their education. Such a visit is not part of the selection process, and whether or not applicants have visited will not influence the final outcome. Please call Jill Pounder, School Business Manager on 01977 687910 to make an appointment or email: jill.pounder@sherburnhigh.co.uk

About Sherburn High School

Sherburn High School is situated in an attractive position on the western fringes of the village of Sherburn in Elmet, which lies in the M1/A1/A64 corridor between Leeds and York. First class housing and education choices, and a wide range of leisure opportunities are also available. We are a thriving school community that is big enough to deliver but small enough to care.

We strive to be open, honest and up for the challenge! We don’t claim to know all the answers or to always get it right, but we do claim to try our very best to support and care about every single young person in our school as summed up by our school motto “Achievement for All.”

We are fortunate to have an established and cohesive team of outstanding practitioners within a successful and vibrant school. At Sherburn we do not limit our definition of achievement simply to academic pursuits. We believe in developing well-rounded individuals and, as such, we make a significant investment in sports and the arts.

If you would like to know more about the school and its activities, please look at our website www.sherburnhigh.co.uk and get in touch. Thank you for your interest in our school.
