Job overview

‘Growing, Learning and Flying High!’

If you are a leader who is ambitious, transformational and committed to inclusion across North Yorkshire then this appointment will present you with a unique opportunity.

Forest Moor School whilst small (53 students on roll currently) has exciting plans for the growth of the school over the next 5 years both in terms of pupils, our curriculum offer and maximising the use of our school site.

In many ways this is career enhancing for a visionary and experienced school leader who will be looking for an opportunity to transform our school and play a pivotal role in working with the Local Authority and key stakeholders as we shape the future of inclusion across North Yorkshire together.

Situated on the outskirts of Harrogate the school provides vital and important special education for children aged between 9 and 16 years of age who require unique and inclusive education. All of our children have an EHCP and travel to us from across North Yorkshire.

Our ambition and yours will be that Forest Moor becomes a centre of excellence for both the provision of SEMH and for promoting the latest inclusive practices within education.

Our children here at Forest Moor deserve an education that will change their lives and give them the opportunity to fulfil their potential, in turn you and your staff will enjoy a fulfilling career, releasing your potential and maximising your impact.

Our Opportunity

We are looking for a Headteacher who has strong leadership skills who can galvanise our staff, parents, young people and community to achieve their very best through shaping and delivering an inspiring vision for the future.

In many ways this is a unique professional opportunity that will allow a colleague to develop and build an outstanding provision for our children and young people. Our site has incredible potential for the right colleague to develop – we have an enviable full size sports hall, squash court, outdoor areas, full size workshop and significant space inside of the building. These all lend themselves to a creative and innovative leader’s ambition to develop an exciting and vibrant curriculum.

Aspiration, resilience and the ability to build positive and trusting relationships will be in your character as a leader as you create a culture of learning and ambition that will see our children and young people develop, grow and contribute an active part in today’s society. You will be committed to partnership working, engaging with a wide range of partners to maximise Forest Moor but also to grasp other opportunities to embed inclusion across education.

All stakeholders are firm in their view that Forest Moor has an incredibly bright outlook. We recognise that recent turbulence in leadership has impacted on our progress towards fulfilling our ambition. The targeted and cohesive support provided by the Local Authority, the Governing Body and the local network of SEMH and special schools means that support is in place for this crucial and unique appointment of our next Headteacher.

We can offer you:

  • Significant levels of support from both the Local Authority, Governing Body and a staff team who is experienced, committed and passionate about our school.
  • An opportunity to see the potential that exists here and with clear support given the tools and time to make transformation change, an opportunity to make a difference that is life changing and rewarding.
  • The chance to work with key stakeholders to shape and deliver the future of inclusion across the County.
  • Relocation assistance and competitive remuneration package
  • Children and young people who will make you proud to be their new Headteacher
  • A commitment from the Governing Body to keep the pay range under review to ensure high performance can be fully rewarded.
