Job overview

Kirby Hill C of E Primary School is a small, rural primary school set in the village of Kirby Hill on the edge of the dales, close to the town of Boroughbridge and within a few minutes travel of the A1(M). We provide education for children aged from 3- 11 years and benefit from being a PFI, purpose built facility with extensive grounds for our children.

Currently rated ‘outstanding by SIAMS, our school prides itself on its commitment to the education of young children. We provide a rich learning environment in a happy and purposeful atmosphere in which each child is able to develop to their full potential. We aim for excellence and, as a Church of England Primary School, our ethos is rooted in Christian Values.

We are seeking to appoint a committed leader who can direct the school’s strategic planning, lead the development of the curriculum and deliver an outstanding provision which meets the needs of all our young people. To succeed you must be a strong and effective communicator with the ability to quickly move us from ‘requires improvement’. In the main, this will revolve around the leadership and teaching of writing, teaching consistency and the need to challenge more able pupils.

To be successful, you must be able to instill a strong sense of accountability in staff, establish a rigorous, fair and transparent method for managing their performance and create an outwardly-facing school which works collaboratively with other schools and organisations.

As well as actively raising standards, you will also ensure that the school’s ethos is maintained and effectively manage a third party PFI, ensuring it delivers the facilities and services the schools requires.

In return, we can offer strong support from our governing body, teaching alliance and cluster of schools with a commitment to professional development.

We feel this is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to our school, its pupils and the wider community. If you would like to visit us to find out more, please call Mrs Gudgeon or Mrs Williamson (school secretary) on 01423 322713 to make an appointment or email: admin@kirbyhill.n-yorks.sch.uk.

We look forward to receiving your application.

Kirby Hill is surrounded by open countryside and affords long-range views towards the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. Located close to the A1, A19 and A59, it is easily accessible from Leeds, Harrogate, York and Teesside.

North Yorkshire is England's largest county and one of the most rural. The area comprises the National Parks of the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, the Pennines and the stunning, fossil-filled “Dinosaur” coastline with its cliffs and long sandy bays between Scarborough and Whitby. The area hosted the phenomenal Tour de France in 2014, and due to its success has created the Tour de Yorkshire with global recognition. Besides the historic and beautiful city of York, you will find ruined castles and abbeys, serene gardens, pretty villages and market towns, thrilling trail routes to walk or ride and industrial heritage. There really is something for everyone!
