Lead, Shape, Influence

Currently rated as Outstanding by Ofsted, The Dales School represents an excellent opportunity for a headteacher to Lead, Shape and Influence our future and ensure our continued success.

Based in the village of Morton on Swale, just minutes from the County Market Town of Northallerton, we are one of only four co-educational special schools in North Yorkshire, catering for young people with severe and complex learning needs, including a generic sixth form provision.  A warm and friendly school, we have a committed and motivated staff group who are highly valued for the contribution and difference they make to the lives of our pupils and students.

Through our outreach services beyond school, we share skills and knowledge with other schools to help develop their expertise and contribute locally, regionally and nationally to the development of special needs education.  We also consider ourselves to be enterprising, always looking both to identify and develop opportunities to maximise income.

Ideally geographically positioned, nestling between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors National Parks, we benefit from the beauty of a rural setting and the close proximity of major road and rail connections, making travel throughout the region and to other major centres quick and convenient.

As our current headteacher is retiring in the summer, we are seeking to appoint a committed and experienced professional with a remit to further shape our improvement plan while continuing to raise standards.

An effective leader and motivator able to inspire pupils, students and staff, you will assume responsibility for all aspects of school life. This will include directing the school’s strategic planning, leading the development of the curriculum and delivering an outstanding provision which meets the needs of all our young people.

To succeed, you will need a thorough knowledge of national education strategy, the wider context for Special Schools and be familiar with National Minimum Care Standards.

The ideal candidate will also be enterprising, able to develop and influence partnerships and comfortable in networking with a wide range of stakeholders.

In return, we can offer you strong support, the freedom to shape the future of the school and the opportunity for your continued professional development.

If you would like the opportunity of a 30 minute tour of the school, please  call Cheryl Hagyard, School Business Manager on 01609 772932 or go to: http://www.thedalesschool.org/contact-us
