Job overview

Are you an experienced Deputy Headteacher or Senior School Leader seeking your next challenge?

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to establish a new Church of England Primary School within a leading Multi Academy Trust in Oxfordshire. The school is planned to open in September 2021 and we are seeking a Headteacher to start from April 2021 to help lay the foundations for September, recruiting the wider team, and establishing the curriculum and policies for the school as well as fostering links with the local community.

Due to the school’s initial size (opening as a one form entry) the school will be considered as a Group 1 school - but the school is planned to eventually grow to 315 pupils, and the salary will grow in line with the school.

The successful candidate:

  • Will be well qualified with strong primary experience;
  • Will provide strong, decisive and courageous leadership;
  • Will have a clear vision of how to bring a new community together, how to grow a school from scratch and how to deploy resources to achieve the best outcomes for children;
  • Be an excellent communicator with strong values and will be able to engage staff, pupils, parents and governors in shaping the direction of this new school.

We know that great schools thrive because of the people in them, and we value each member of our professional community and value our health and wellbeing. Our staff charter sets a standard that we all seek to follow.

There is something special about people who work at River Learning Trust – so if you care passionately about what you do, strive to deliver excellence, and enjoy coming to work and making a difference to the lives of children and young people, we will welcome your application to join our team.

Closing date: Midday Monday 30th November 2020

Interviews: Thursday 10th and Friday 11th December 2020

The River Learning Trust is a successful and growing Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) based in Oxfordshire.

This is an exciting time for the Trust. We are currently responsible for a number of secondary schools, primary schools, and a SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) provider; we have a secondary Free School in pre-opening and are in discussions with a number of other secondary and primary schools as the Trust is preparing for further growth in the coming years.

Our Vision

Education has the power to change lives, communities and society for the better. At the River Learning Trust we believe that we can achieve more for our pupils, trainees, staff and communities by working together rather than alone. All of the schools in the River Learning Trust are united by a common belief in the benefits of working together, and by our commitment to a series of three principles:

  • Commitment to Excellence
  • Everyone Learning
  • Respectful Relationships

Within our vision:

  • Each school has its own unique character and ethos, reflecting local communities and their needs and priorities
  • The Trust establishes collective and collaborative autonomy where the drive for excellence comes from within the schools, to the benefit of all schools in the Trust
  • The relationships within the Trust ensure genuine and impactful joint accountability – the outcomes for all of the pupils in all of the schools matter to everyone
  • Schools continue to take responsibility for their own performance and character within a Trust context which provides both support and challenge
