Job overview

St. John's School and College are looking to recruit

                                                Headteacher

                                           School site - Seaford

Base: Seaford (occasionally dual site)

St. John's is a national charity working with young people with complex needs that promotes the education and wellbeing of 7 to 25-year olds. St John's also operates a non-maintained Special School (7-19) in Seaford, East Sussex, and a Specialist FE College (19-25) in Brighton, East Sussex.

This post is for the Headteacher of the School in Seaford. The charity is restructuring its provision to promote the school and college further; to develop a mental health team and a children's home; to develop a research section and to develop the charitable arm further. This is an exciting new post that offers a wonderful opportunity for a dynamic and well-organised colleague who wishes to develop further with the potential for career progression within St John's at a later stage. Many areas of St. John's are inspected by Ofsted and CQC which are predominantly good or outstanding.

St John's School is located within Seaford, surrounded by a beautiful setting close to the South Downs National Park. The School works closely with our College located close by in the cosmopolitan and inclusive City of Brighton and Hove. We provide specialist education that includes speech, language and occupational therapy which is also being integrated into the curriculum.

With this, St. John's is proud to offer excellent care provisions, well-being services and employability programmes that help our learners to not only develop life skills, but social skills too that can prepare them for their transition to College, other further education or employment.

We believe that all our learners and service users should, and can, fulfil their potential in life. Our approach is based around developing and achieving five important outcomes:

- Well-being

- Communication

- Skills

- Independence

- Employability

St. John's is seeking an exceptional and dynamic individual to lead a multi-professional team of experts in the special educational needs of 25 young people aged 7- 19 years who have severe and complex needs or behaviours. We are looking for a colleague who, working with the CEO and College Principal, can grow the school from 25 to 40 learners in the next three years.

You are likely to already be a Headteacher, Principal, Deputy with substantial SEND experience or have experience in leading a similar school or college. You will be experienced in special needs education and possess the vision to unlock the talents of our learners and transform their lives. This pivotal role will suit an experienced and well qualified practitioner with energy and drive who will lead our school. You will provide inspirational and vibrant leadership to a team of teachers, speech, language and occupational therapists, medical, care, development and support staff to maintain the highest standards of teaching, learning and care.

All job applicants will be required to provide 2 referees (one must be your most recent employer) and undertake an enhanced DBS Disclosure. This process forms part of our recruitment policy.

Closing date: Friday 1st December at 4pm
