Group 6: NOR 173

L26-L32 (£81,927-£94,898), starting point dependent on experience

Required for September 2023

We are looking for an experienced and outward-facing school leader with the creativity and strategic vision to guide our school on the next stage of our journey.

Talbot is an inclusive and diverse school providing education for young people with severe and complex learning difficulties. Supported by an experienced SLT, our new headteacher will lead a large team of highly skilled and dedicated professionals to deliver the exciting learning opportunities that ensure all our students fulfil their potential. In partnership with Seven Hills School, Talbot also offers on-site post-16 education, and hosts the Fusion SEND Hub, a partnership of SEND providers dedicated to improving professional practice and the experiences of our learners.

Our next headteacher will have:

  •  High aspirations for all our students and the knowledge and understanding of what it means to be a learner in a special school
  • The vision, imagination and commitment to build on the existing exciting developments within school and to forge new paths in a changing education landscape
  •  The ability to manage school resources in a time of budgetary constraints to ensure our students continue to receive the level of provision to which they are entitled
  • The ability to manage, develop and inspire a large staff team within a complex and dynamic organisation

In return we offer:

  • The support of a committed governing body, which is dedicated to your continued professional development
  • Collaborative working opportunities with a wide range of stakeholders
  • The opportunity to lead an outward-facing and growing school while making a very real difference to the lives of our students

We welcome applications from school leaders who are looking for the opportunity to make their mark. If this sounds like you, please refer to the attached brochure for more information about the role and the school. Please note that we will consider exceptional leaders whose experience has been in primary and secondary mainstream schools.

School visits are strongly encouraged and can be arranged by contacting the Headteacher’s PA, Nichola Jones, at njones@talbot.sheffield.sch.uk. For an informal discussion about the vacancy and the school’s context, please contact the retiring Headteacher, Tricia Bennett, on the school’s main number.

Completed applications forms, and any queries about the recruitment process, should be addressed to Scott Glover at scott@gloverrecruitment.co.uk or by phoning 0776 677 3682.

Talbot Specialist School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and young people; we expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. All shortlisted candidates will be asked to disclose any cautions or convictions prior to interview. The amendments to the ROA Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide that certain convictions and cautions are 'protected' and are therefore not subject to disclosure to employers. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and a Children’s Barred List check. Candidates are asked to read the school’s safeguarding policy, which is available at:

www.talbotlearningcommunity.org.uk/our-school/safeguarding

Please use the downloadable Word version of the application form attached with this advert. In line with safer recruitment practice, CVs will not be considered.

Closing date for applications: 5.00pm Friday 14th April 2023

Assessment centre and interviews: Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th April 2023

Talbot is a Specialist School for very vulnerable young people with a range of complex learning needs. We strive to provide outstanding education for young people working below national curriculum levels, who present a range of additional needs including autism, profound and multiple learning difficulties.

Talbot wishes to promote its specialism by sharing good practice and supporting the work of other colleagues within mainstream education working with complex learners. We wish to promote the 24hour curriculum, using technology to support learning at home for young people, their families and carers.

As part of the BSF programme, the new school will become a focus for specialist provision and development within the city for disabled and able bodied young people.
