Job overview

We wish to appoint an experienced and highly-motivated leader with the creativity and strategic vision to guide our high-achieving community special school on the next stage of its journey.

Rowan School is designated for 78 pupils aged 4-11, and is both a National Support School and a Teaching School. Our children have a wide range of academic, social, emotional and communicative abilities and all have statements or Educational, Health & Care plans related to autism.

The school has a city-wide catchment area, with some pupils occasionally attending from outside the city. We are situated on a pleasant site in southwest Sheffield, close to the Peak District National Park. Ours is a popular and friendly multi-ethnic school which provides a nurturing learning environment where everyone feels valued. Staff are well supported and their continuous professional development is strongly encouraged. We also place a high emphasis on engagement with our parents and carers. We take pride in our school community as one in which we all learn together and from one another.

Our next headteacher will have:

  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of what it means to be a learner in a special school and of working with children with autism
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • The vision and commitment to build on the existing exciting developments within the school and to forge new paths
  • The ability to enable a learning environment that promotes high aspirations for pupils with autism and which values and builds upon their emergent capabilities

In return we offer:

  • A highly-skilled, professional and motivated staff team
  • Strong partnership with a knowledgeable and supportive board of governors, all of whom are committed to your professional development
  • Parents and carers who welcome partnership and share our high expectations
  • An innovative bespoke curriculum
  • Collaborative working practice with a wide range of stakeholders

We are looking for a headteacher who wants to make their mark. This role provides opportunities to lead the development of the school within a strong and skilled network of stakeholders.

Rowan School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful applicant to undertake an enhanced criminal records check via the Disclosure & Barring Service. Please visit the school website to view our safeguarding policy.

Visits to our school are strongly encouraged and can be arranged by contacting the School Business Manager on 0114 235 0479.

Completed applications forms, and any queries about the recruitment process, should be addressed to Scott Glover at scott@gloverrecruitment.co.uk or by phoning 0776677 3682.

Please use the downloadable Word version of the application form, which is attached.

Closing date for applications: 12 noon Friday 27th January
