Job overview

NOR 156

Group 2: ISR L10 to L16

We are an exciting, inspirational and expanding school, which sits in the heart of a lively, well-linked community, close to Wells and Glastonbury. We focus on our core values, which encourage children to become independent and have self-belief while being compassionate and respectful. Our core aim is to create good people who will go out into the wider world and strive to make it a better place.

The Governors wish to appoint another inspirational and enthusiastic Headteacher to lead our fully-inclusive, thriving rural school with children fully immersed in their education into the future.  We are looking for the right individual, who may be a current Headteacher, or an experienced Senior Leader looking for their first Headship.

Our children and school community are looking for a Headteacher who will:

  • Lead by example – with integrity, creativity, and clarity – inspiring and influencing other stakeholders to provide the best educational environment for our children.
  • Prioritise the wellbeing, resilience and achievements of all children and staff and put this at the heart of all decisions.
  • Create a stimulating school learning environment, including our outdoor play and learning environment (OPAL), encouraging enquiring minds and the development of lifelong learning skills and attitudes.
  • Demand ambitious standards for all pupils, overcoming disadvantage and advancing equality, instilling a strong sense of ownership and accountability from staff for the impact their work has on pupils’ outcomes.
  • Create an ethos within which an already skilled staff team are motivated and supported to research and develop their own skills and subject knowledge, and to support each other.
  • Be visible and accessible, engaging positively with children, staff, parents, Governors, and the community.
  • Provide an inclusive safe, calm, and well-ordered environment for all pupils and staff, focused on safeguarding pupils and developing their exemplary behaviour in school and in the wider society.
  • With Governors, evaluate the school’s performance and identify the priorities for continuous improvement and raising of standards.
  • Develop an outward-facing school capable of collaborating in partnership with other schools and organisations to champion best practices and excellent outcomes for pupils.
  • Ensure that the child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures adopted by the governing body are fully implemented and followed by all staff.

In return we offer:

  • Confident, happy children, who enjoy their time in school and are eager to learn and succeed.
  • Talented, committed, professional staff who are open to development and new ideas.
  • A fully supportive Governing Body who are ambitious for the school and its pupils, offering challenge and support.
  • A growing school with expanding numbers and exciting development opportunities set within a green spacious area.
  • A thriving school community with supportive parents and an active PSA.
