Job overview

Preston School is the long-standing school of choice in Yeovil and is rapidly improving. It is over-subscribed and has a reputation for high standards and excellence across all aspects of secondary education. The school has very good facilities and has recently been awarded planning permission for an all-weather pitch. Preston School is part of the Midsomer Norton Schools’ Partnership Trust (MNSP). The Trust has 28 schools in BANES, Somerset and North Somerset and is the second largest and one of the most successful Multi-Academy Trusts in the South West.

From Easter 2023, Mr Gregg Morrison will be relinquishing the substantive role of Headteacher at Preston School and moving on to lead secondary school improvement for another Trust. As a result of his promotion, applications are invited for the role of Headteacher at Preston School.

The salary is set in line with Teachers’ Pay and Conditions and takes account of the support and line management received by the CEO/DCEO. Trustees are particularly looking for colleagues with previous headship experience.

A job description is attached along with a person specification.

Interested parties should complete their application form and include within their Supporting Statement (no more than 2 sides of A4) stating the following:

• Explain how your experience to date makes you a suitable candidate for this role.

• Explain how you would lead improvements in teaching and learning so that outcomes for all students were consistently high.

• Explain how you would lead the improvement in progress of boys, PP children and those with a Special Educational Need.

• Explain how you would support staff to ensure strong school improvement whilst maintaining a health work-life balance.

Provisional date for Interviews: 7th & 8th February 2023.

The start date for this role is 17th April 2023, however, a later start date would be considered for the right applicant.

Preston School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion.
