Bowlish Infant School is a small, friendly community school. We can take up to 117 children aged between 4 and 7 years. The school opened in July 1869 to educate the children in the mill communities of Bowlish and Darshill and has a long history of involvement in the local community. Although established as a church school it is no longer affiliated to a particular religious body, but remains true to its original spirit of caring for and supporting children and their families. We work as a team of staff, governors and parents to provide the very best learning experience for all the children that attend our school.

Over the years the school has been extended, decorated and resourced to a high standard. The buildings comprise of four classrooms, a library, hall, staffroom, quiet room, kitchen and the school offices as well as outdoor learning areas. Each classroom has a wide range of resources including a reading area, numerous practical resources to support learning, computers, I-pads and an interactive screen.

The three year groups are taught within four classes which are named after birds:

  • Robin - a Reception class.
  • Owl - a mixed Reception and Year 1 class.
  • Woodpecker - a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class.
  • Finch - a Year 2 class.

Our experienced team of staff attend a range of training courses during the school year and are committed to ensuring that their practice is effective in supporting children to learn well and make good progress.
