The Samuel Ward Academy Trust and local governing body seek an outstanding Headteacher for Samuel Ward Academy, the founder school of the Samuel Ward Academy Trust.

Samuel Ward Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form in Suffolk, serving students from the age of 11-18. The secondary school, situated in Haverhill has approximately 1,182 students on record. The Unity Schools Partnership Multi-Academy Trust has a partnership with schools across Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Havering.

Formerly Samuel Ward Arts and Technology College, Samuel Ward Academy converted to academy status in 2010. It was identified as good by Ofsted in its most recent inspection in 2022.

Values and vision

Samuel Ward Academy’s vision is to inspire student’s love for learning and build their confidence and responsibility as independent learners, who achieve to the highest of their abilities. The Suffolk secondary school nurtures supportive relationships and wants students to feel valued during their time learning. New students are allocated a learning coach and teamed with a small group of peers, enabling for them to settle into the new environment and develop new friendships. Mutual respect and supportive relationships are fostered at the school, with success celebrated. The school has the core values of compassion, hope, justice, respect, wisdom, courage, resilience, integrity and responsibility. Samuel Ward Academy encourages students to participate in enrichment activities to broaden their opportunities and practice skills in leadership and teamwork. These range from the Duke of Edinburgh Award to drama club.
