Job overview

An exciting leadership opportunity has become available for you to join Pakefield High School as Headteacher at a pivotal time in its development.

Required from September 2016, we are seeking to appoint an inspirational, enthusiastic and visionary Headteacher to continue to build on our success to date. We are looking for a leader who will relish the opportunity of ensuring we continue on our journey to become a centre of excellence in secondary education and the school of choice within the Lowestoft and Waveney Valley area.

We need a passionate leader with drive and ambition - someone with successful strategic experience and the ability to inspire, challenge and motivate our whole school community. In addition, as an outstanding classroom practitioner, you will lead the team in delivering the best in pioneering and innovative teaching and learning, and empower each individual to fulfil their potential.

We also want to make a significant difference to the lives of our students by developing their broader skills and experiences and delivering real opportunities to enable them to secure an outstanding future once they move on from our care.

This new school was developed as a consequence of school reorganisation in north Suffolk which led to a shift from a three tier to a two tier pre-16 education model. A sixth form college was also developed for the town as part of the same reorganisation process. Pakefield remains the only local authority maintained secondary school in Lowestoft.

"What happens next" in the life of the school is the exciting challenge lying ahead. As Headteacher, working closely with governors and other key stakeholders, you will be instrumental in defining and delivering the next phase of the school's strategic and structural development. As such you will be fully conversant with current educational policies and the opportunities and issues these present and you will be capable of developing, communicating and delivering a clear and coherent plan of action in this respect.

Accountable to the governing body, you will be the senior professional in the school, and will be responsible for delivering our ethos and ambitions and establishing high quality education by leading on teaching and learning, having the highest aspirations for students and staff and ensuring the continued innovative development of all staff.

In return for your enthusiasm, resilience and experience, we offer you the opportunity to make a real impact on a developing school community. You will work with a supportive governing body, staff team and local community and will be instrumental in 'Shaping the Future' of Lowestoft.

Pakefield was opened in 2011 and the final phase of a £25 million building project is now nearing completion. This will give us brand new, ultra-modern facilities for all pupils in a state of the art school by the summer of 2016.

The school (which is currently oversubscribed) has 900 pupils in years 7 to 11, was rated 'Good' by Ofsted in 2013 and recorded its first set of published GCSE exam results in August 2015. We are proud that our pupils achieved 52% 5 A*-C including English and mathematics, after just 4 years at Pakefield, making us the highest achieving secondary school in Lowestoft. They also achieved a positive 'value added' of 1003.

However, the journey has only just begun and we want to push this achievement beyond national standards and continue to raise the levels of attainment and aspiration for all our students. Roll: 900

We urge you to visit Pakefield High School prior to an application so that we can answer questions you may have and so that you can engage with the ethos.

Pakefield High School is a newly-opened secondary school located in the town of Lowestoft, Suffolk. First opened in 2011, the school was formed following a large reorganisation of schools in the local area, with Pakefield High School initially inheriting the buildings of a former middle school. Later, the school moved onto a brand new purpose-built site, with capacity for around 900 students aged 11-16, average-sized for a school of this type. The school is co-educational, and offers a small amount of off-site provision for pupils with specific educational needs.

Values and Vision

Pakefield High School works hard in order to fulfil its comprehensive ethos, achieving this by offering a wide-ranging and engaging curriculum, along with proper recognition of the needs of individual students. The school provides guidance for older pupils in Key Stage 4 as to the kinds of options they have available to them post-16, be it further education or employment. The personal development of pupils is also carefully considered, with their social and emotional intelligence, as well as work ethic, going hand-in-hand with academic achievement.

Ofsted

“Pupils are making good progress and achieving well because they are taught well and their attitudes to learning are good. They enjoy the well-developed practical tasks provided in most lessons to help them learn. Teaching assistants provide skilled support to individual and small groups of pupils, often those who have additional needs or are at risk of falling behind, to ensure they move forward in their learning.”
