Job overview

Headteacher

Salary: L23-L29 (Fringe Area)

Currently £71,689 - £82,860 pa

Our much-valued Headteacher is retiring at the end of the academic year and we are looking to appoint an inspirational leader from 1st September 2020, committed to continuing to deliver the highest quality educational provision for young people at Epsom Downs Primary School & Children’s Centre.

The site that the School sits on is made up of Epsom Downs Primary School, Epsom Downs Day Nursery, Epsom Downs Family Centre and a Breakfast, After School and Holiday Club.  The Headteacher will have overall responsibility for the organisation, management and conduct of the whole Site.  Any reference made to the School, includes the whole site as follows:

  • Epsom Downs Primary School has a roll of 445 pupils, which includes a School maintained nursery
  • Our Day Nursery is rated Ofsted Outstanding.  The Day Nursery takes up to 37 children in one session from 3 months old.  It is open 51 weeks a year.
  • Our Family Centre is part of the wider Family Service in Surrey which support families with children 0-11 that are the most vulnerable in the community.
  • The Breakfast, After School and Holiday Club is open 51 weeks per year and takes a maximum of 40 children from our School and elsewhere in the community.

We  are a diverse and vibrant School set on the edge of the famous Epsom Downs racecourse. We are a large and well-resourced site with a large, experienced and committed group of staff, extensive outdoor areas (including a farm, an off-site Nature World and playing fields), a Nurture Group, a supportive Governing Body and a pupil body that told our most recent inspectors that they “love school”.

Following our last successful Ofsted inspection, the inspectorate deemed Epsom Downs Primary School as a good school and we are now looking at building on our strengths.  The School has achieved the Marjorie Boxall Quality Mark Award for excellence in nurturing and is working towards NACE re-accreditation.

If you have any queries regarding this vacancy, please contact our School Business Leader, Meg Gardiner, on info@epsomdowns.surrey.sch.uk.  We are also happy to arrange for any interested candidates to look around the school; please contact the school on the same email address to arrange.

The closing date for receipt of applications is Sunday 26th January 2019 at 12 noon and shortlisted shortly afterwards.  Interviews will be held on Wednesday 5th February 2019. References will be sought before interview.

Epsom Downs Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. It is a requirement for the successful applicant to undertake a School issued Enhanced DBS check and accept the responsibility for providing and safeguarding the welfare of all pupils and children. ID documents and evidence of address will need to be produced at interview and, for the successful candidate, will form the basis of proceeding with a DBS check.

Epsom Downs Primary School is an equal opportunities employer, and selects staff on merit, irrespective of race, sex, disability or age.
