Crowdys Hill is a day special school for students with complex needs.  We are a secondary school catering for both boys and girls.  Students have a range of special educational needs including learning difficulties, autism, sensory impairments, physical impairments and emotional needs.  One of our key tasks is to ensure that we enhance the students’ self-esteem and social skills.

Our teaching staff come from a range of backgrounds.  Some have taught largely in primary schools, some from secondary schools and some have taught almost exclusively in the special school sector.  For any vacancy teaching background matters less to us than the expertise and enthusiasm a candidate would bring to the post.

The school is committed to student-centred education and to the concept of educating the whole person.  We strongly support the Every Child Matters agenda and our School Improvement Plan includes a focus on the five headings of:

  • Stay Safe
  • Being Healthy
  • Enjoy and Achieve
  • Economic Well Being
  • Making a positive contribution

As a school we have a proven track record in working with other agencies to support this agenda.

Ofsted commented in February 2011 that:

“Adults are proud to be part of the school and are clear about the aims and how they can contribute to future developments.  Teachers recognise their own strengths and are eager to develop their own practice.”

As a school we believe the mission statement “we can all improve on our previous best” applies to staff every bit as much as our students.  Working at Crowdys Hill is both rewarding and fulfilling.  We have fantastic students; overwhelmingly supportive parent/carers and a dedicated team of staff.
