Waterloo Primary School is a diverse and inclusive two form entry primary school in Tameside. Waterloo has recently become a member of Prestolee Multi Academy Trust and is at the beginning of its journey towards good or outstanding. It has a clear and ambitious plan to build on recent progress. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and innovative head teacher to lead the school, building on the existing strengths and achievements and delivering high quality outcomes. Our new Headteacher should be an outstanding leader, who is able to articulate the vision for the school and who will inspire and empower others to share the same in achieving it.

The chosen candidate will become part of the team at Prestolee Multi Academy Trust and as such will have the opportunity to play an active role in the development of the wider network, building on a background of success in delivering the trust’s vision through professional development, school to school support, a wide network of schools and initial teacher training.

‘To be better than you have ever been before - Aiming High.’

At Waterloo Primary we work to ensure:

EVERY CHILD A WRITER

EVERY CHILD A READER

EVERY CHILD NUMERATE

A school where every child has the opportunity to shine and is prepared for a future of possibilities!

At Waterloo we feel that the school should provide the foundation and opportunities for the children in our care to become well rounded and capable individual members of a society which continually evolves and develops.

When children leave Waterloo we want them to be independent learners and thinkers with a range of skills and talents. We can only do this by striving to provide an environment for learning in which children are able to maximise their potential academically, socially, physically and emotionally. Within this we strive to provide a curriculum which is broad based, exciting and creative. We aim to be a school where children are taught knowledge, skills and develop positive attitudes to learning and to others. Where children become self-confident learners with a love for learning which will stay with them for life.

The successful candidate must:

  • Demonstrate successful leadership and proven management experience
  • Have a collaborative and supportive approach to inspire and motivate others
  • Have the skills to build excellent relationships with pupils, staff, parents, governors and the wider community
  • Recognise the work within the structure of a supportive but accountable Multi Academy Trust

and in return will enjoy:

  • Working with a dedicated and committed team of teaching and support staff
  • A happy, friendly and dynamic learning environment for pupils
  • Opportunity to continue to further develop the school with the support of an outstanding school and Multi Academy Trust

The Trust has arranged tours of the school to take place on Thursday 8th February, either at 1.30 – 3.00pm or 4.00-5.30pm. During the tours the CEO and Deputy CEO of the Trust will talk about the context of Waterloo Primary School and how Prestolee Multi Academy Trust will be working with the school going forward.

To take part in one of these tours please contact Sarah Carroll on 01204 332284.

Values and vision

Waterloo Primary School prides itself on being an eco-school. It aims to empower children to drive change and improve their environmental awareness. Every class in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 has an eco-representative and they meet on a weekly basis.

Waterloo Primary School aspires to raise achievement through the provision of engaging, challenging and inspiring learning experiences and to pursue excellence in all aspects of school life. Teachers want pupils to be curious, aspirational, respectful, enthusiastic and successful.

Ofsted report

The headteacher and deputy are leading an unremitting drive to move this school to ‘good’. Staff are on board, morale is high and improvements are evident. There has been significant improvement to governance. Governors know much more about the school’s work and challenge school leaders well about the school’s performance. School leaders’ rigorous checks on teaching and learning and increased staff training have resulted in improvements to the teaching of reading, writing and mathematics. Pupils’ presentation of work is much better.”
