Job overview

Are you a current Headteacher looking for a new challenge or an experienced Deputy Headteacher looking for your first Headship? The Governing Body at Alder Community High School are looking to appoint a dynamic, forward-thinking, energetic leader with a proven track record of success to take the school to the next level. The current Headteacher has been with the school since it opened in 2001 and took over as Headteacher in 2012. It is with a heavy heart that he has decided that now is the time to step down and begin his retirement.

Alder Community High School is a popular, oversubscribed 11-16, Local Authority maintained school. We are situated in Gee Cross, Hyde, close to the borders with Stockport and the Peak District.  We offer a friendly, supportive environment and excellent facilities, in a modern and purposeful building.

The successful candidate will have the support of a thriving SLT, an established and skilful Governing Body, the Local Education Authority and a network of headteachers across the borough of Tameside (TASH). We work collaboratively with a variety of schools within the Greater Manchester area and have active subject networks working together to drive up standards within the school and across Tameside.

You will be leading a highly committed team of staff who are passionate about what they do. We are a community, and we want all students to thrive in a happy, safe, supportive, yet challenging learning environment. At Alder, our vision is that our students pursue academic success but also that they also develop a set of skills which will prepare them for life beyond school. We want our students to be able to form positive relationships, enrich themselves and make a valuable contribution to society.

'We Are Alder' is central to our positive ethos. Our core Alder values are evident throughout all aspects of our school.

Our Alder values aren’t simply about school – they’re about everyone, everywhere, always. They are not a temporary philosophy linked to school but a set of values to follow for life. ‘We Are Alder’ is how you get a good job or an apprenticeship, how you become a good parent, how you get promoted and how you become a good partner. It’s about success in your whole life, not just your academic life.

If you share our values, have the vision and drive for excellence and want to be part of an enthusiastic, dedicated school community, committed to ensuring that students fulfil their potential, then we look forward to hearing from you.

We would welcome you to visit the school and meet with the current headteacher. Please contact recruitment@alderchs.uk or telephone 0161 368 5132 and ask for Claire Hood, to arrange a mutually convenient time.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  Appointment is subject to satisfactory enhanced status checks from the Disclosure and Barring Service.  The school promotes equal opportunities.

Applications should be submitted via quick apply on the TES online portal. Please ensure your supporting statement is no longer than 1200 words.

Closing date for applications – Monday, 27th February at 9am

Successful shortlisted candidates will be informed by Monday, 6th March

Interview days – Monday, 13th and Tuesday, 14th March

Our Values

We encourage our students to live by our values in all that they do.

  • Altruism – having a genuine and self-less concern for others.
  • Leadership – inspiring and empowering a community to achieve a shared vision by leading by example.
  • Diversity – celebrating, accepting and respecting that everyone is different both in school and in our community.
  • Excellence – striving to achieve your best in all that you do.
  • Resilience – turning challenges into something positive and never giving up.

Our students will receive the highest quality of teaching and we invest in our staff to realise the vision.  Our staff and their wellbeing are important and without them, our students could not flourish.

Students are at the centre of everything we do and increasing their life chances is our primary goal.  We want our students to leave Alder as well-rounded human beings, work/college ready and able to take their place in society to contribute, enjoy life and be able to improve their own lives and the lives of others.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
