Five Rivers Child Care is a leading independent, Social Enterprise that works with ‘Looked after Children’. As a Social Enterprise, we are constantly evolving and are planning for future expansion and development.

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Headteacher to lead the staff team at our independent school, The Farringdon Centre.

Peacefully situated in the heart of Salisbury City centre, The Farringdon Centre provides education for up to 20 children who have social, emotional and mental health needs and provides a safe and nurturing environment for anxious, vulnerable pupils unable to sustain a mainstream placement. The Farringdon Centre offers a balance of academic studies, physical education and creative arts subjects; all underpinned by our therapeutic ethos.

Our Residential and Day pupils are taught in small groups or on a one to one basis by our highly experienced and skilled staff team, all trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). We also work closely with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and the Wiltshire Outdoor Learning Team.

As the Headteacher of The Farringdon Centre, you will:

  • Be a creative thinker, able to develop and lead the strategic vision and direction of The Farringdon Centre.
  • Provide strategic leadership and management of The Farringdon Centre.
  • Secure and sustain effective teaching and learning throughout the school.
  • Be able to lead a team of dedicated professionals who work in a potentially difficult setting and to ensure that staff wellbeing and work / life balance is maintained
  • Undertake Performance Management & Line Management responsibilities for a group of teachers and associate staff in the school.
  • Deploy staff and resources efficiently and effectively to meet specific objectives in line with strategic plans and financial contexts.
  • Show resilience, in particular when dealing with children with difficult, reactive lives
  • Ensure effective pastoral care and behaviour support throughout the school.
  • Have a great sense of humour!

In order to be considered for this role, you must have a proven background of working within a Special Education Setting (SEMH/SpLd) with sound knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection, along with solid understanding of the Ofsted Inspection Framework and the National Curriculum. A Therapeutic background or similar training in that field would also be beneficial.
