Job overview

Due to the impending retirement of the current Headteacher, the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust Board wishes to appoint a practising catholic with a strong personal faith, with the vision, leadership and energy to build on the school’s strengths, and provide pupils with the very best learning experiences.

St. Thomas à Becket Catholic Secondary School is a successful, popular and oversubscribed school with approximately 750 students on roll, currently rated Good by Ofsted. We are looking for a leader who will inspire pupils, staff, parents and governors and motivate the whole community to ensure the best possible outcomes for each individual pupil.

We have a strong Catholic ethos, set in a caring and inclusive community. St. Thomas à Becket is part of The Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust, a well‐established Multi-Academy Trust entering its 10th year of operation. Within our 15 academies are communities where our children and young people are given a clear vision for life, a vision which is rooted in the person and teachings of Jesus Christ and which is faithful to the mission of the Catholic Church. The school aims to support families in preparing children to live a full and fruitful life, realising their God-given individuality, importance and potential.

The appointed candidate will be a highly collaborative strategic leader with an ability to engage with a range of internal and external partners, including other Headteachers, to further enhance school improvement across the Trust.

The ideal candidate will:

• Be a committed practising Catholic, with a strong personal faith, who will strive to uphold and develop strong spiritual and moral values throughout the whole school and wider community.

• Be an inspirational leader with a clear vision for the future of the school, building on its current capacity.

• Lead by example, with a ‘can-do’ attitude that inspires commitment from students, staff and the local community.

• Have a proven track record of successful leadership, raising standards in teaching and learning, resulting in measurable whole school improvement, within an aspirational, caring and accountable ethos.

• Understand the current educational climate.

• Demonstrate strong financial acumen.

In our most recent Ofsted report (2023) where the school was rated ‘Good’ in all areas, a student is quoted as saying ‘at this school all students are loved’, which succinctly sums up the spirit, ethos and culture of St. Thomas a Beckets. As those who are truly loved and appreciated as individuals will always thrive to explore their unlimited potential, pupils and staff alike.

The school proud to provide excellent educational experience that saw us achieve some of the best outcomes in Wakefield in 2023. The P8 score achieved by St Thomas a Becket for the 2022-2023 was the highest ever recorded score for the school, and higher than the local authority average and the national average.
